His foot injuries persist. I wonder if this will drive down his value in the eyes of other teams??

We can only hope.  (Sorry, Stiemer)

First his playoffs performance wasn't his best, as he continued to play through the pain, and now he's still gimpy.  We can hope that that will keep him down in the range of a 2-year BAE offer.

Honestly, I'm not quite sure that we should celebrate this news... while it will certainly drive the asking price for Steamer down, it does so for a very good reason.  An injured center going into the season... do we really want to go down that road again?
Our other options are far from sure things, however, so this might give us an opportunity to sign a decent young center with some upside for a very cheap price.

Right now I think the best big man options available to the Celts are BB, Wilcox, and Steamer.
Any new guy we sign will be a big question mark until he learns the system (our defensive rotations are complicated as balls) and got some time to develop chemistry with RR, KG, PP and the gang.
Let's go with the known entities.

I'd rather he was healthy for us!

There's a bright side.  Plantar fasciitis generally heals with rest.  Even if Stiemsma's feet are already feeling much better, it would make absolutely no sense to go play for that US squad this summer.  Rest those puppies up until the start of training camp.

If it keeps other teams away, though, and nobody exceeds the QO, then that's a welcome benefit.

He'll be fine next season.
