I wonder if he takes too long if the C's get someone else once the player pool keeps dropping. He's fine right now but if other sg's start signing the Celts might have to pick someone else up cause it's too risky to hope he comes back at some point.

To even visit Miami feels dirty. That's like Larry Bird visiting the Lakers. Any team BUT your arch rivals. How can he even walk in their offices is beyond me.  ???

Be a man ray. Yes or no. Do you want to still be a Celtic? If No, then thank you for the memories. If yes, you are more than welcome to come back to our fold.

My patience is wearing thin. Its like we also have our own little Dwight drama rama as of the moment.

I don't blame Ray at all. 2 years ago his name came up a bunch at the trade deadline. Last year they had a trade in place for him and Mayo. I mean doesn't loyalty go both ways?

If I was him I would look around and see what's in my best interest, the same as the Celtics look at what in theirs.

That being said, I won't be that upset if he signs elsewhere. It was a great run, but the guy is a one trick pony. Granted he does that one trick very well, but he's a shooter. He's not really a scorer anymore as where he tries to dribble I have to close my eyes. He's not a great passer, he's an okay rebounder for a guard, and he can't guard a chair. I wouldn't mind if they got a younger, scorer off the bench.

I agree on all parts, especially the dribbling part lol. I would get queasy when he tried to put the ball on the floor. His shot is still buttery smooth though. I wouldn't sulk into depression if he left. KG leaving would have hurt.

Apparently he did the same thing in 2010 before coming back (visiting the other suitors).

So we shouldn't be shocked and insulted this time around either.

Is anyone else getting a little tired of the Ray drama?
Not really, FA has been open a whole two days.

These things take time to shake out.

It didn't take too long for the KG thing to shake out.
We were allowed to negotiate with KG prior to July 1st, I imagine the contract parameters were worked out quickly then.

I also think we're going to end up paying Green a lot more than other teams were willing to offer. (whatever the number is).

For Ray Allen the money is close 6 per year versus 5 per year from Clippers/Grizz.

Weren't we allowed to negotiate with Ray prior to July 1st?

And, the hold up with Ray isn't about ironing out the contract parameters, it's about him wanting to test the waters elsewhere.

We were able to negotiate with KG because his expiring contract was long enough so as to be eligible for an extension (I forget if it's three or four years, but regardless, KG was eligible.)  Ray's was only 2 years after he resigned in 2010, so we couldn't talk to him until the same time as everyone else.

I think he'll walk if he feels comfortable that another team won't dangle him in trade offers every season.  I see that more likely to be Miami than the Clippers, who may shop him if Paul leaves as a free agent next year.

Good points there. But the thing is, if he really doesn't want to return to Boston i hope he just says it now, so both camps can move on. For him to even visit Miami makes it appear that Boston simply isn't his priority right now.

At Ray's age, Everyone is a ring prostitute

Well that's clearly not true. That being said, anyone who signs with Miami is a Edited.  Profanity and masked profanity are against forum rules and may result in discipline. (eg. Shane Battier).

Or Jeff Green, apparently. We've got a barrel full of FAs that want to come back to Boston if at all possible and Ray, who may eventually grace the team with his presense, assuming he can get over the indignity of not being handed a starting position even though the team was playing great ball with Avery starting.

This is how I feel honestly, as much respect as I have for what Ray has done for us.  Do whatever you need to win, including come off the bench.

Anytime you sound like AI from a teammate perspective it's not a good thing.

Remember people; it would seem that it is ray AND someone else or just someone else.

Maybe i's not a matter of he doesn't want to come back to Boston, bt wants to look around and see if there is a better fit. Maybe someone like the Clippers offer him good money, a starting job, and he desides southern Cal is a place he and his family would like to live. Maybe he gets there and they offer about the same and he desides that he might as well stay here. Just exploring his options.

Pretty much, though no Ray could free up potential cash to overpay Bass a bit.

I really don't know why Danny and Doc just come out and publicly tell Ray he can start here.  It's obviously important to him and it's really overrated in the grand scheme of things.

The really important issue here is rotation balance (not yanking all the starters for bench players who can't score at the same time) and there's other ways to achieve that besides bringing Ray off the bench.

Rather, I'd suggest giving him the KG treatment  Yank him at the midway point with KG.  Bring in Bradley and Green.  Let Rondo run a little more.  Then at the end of the 1st, you could even let Rondo come out and bring back Ray, letting Bradley run a little point for the last couple of minutes to give Rondo a breather.

The rest of the game, simply maintain a balance of young and old.
