Free agent forward Chris Wilcox has been cleared for full-court contact after undergoing season-ending heart surgery, his agent told NBA.com's David Aldridge on Monday. It's the first step toward Wilcox returning to an NBA court in 2012.

The Boston Celtics will consider re-signing Wilcox, Danny Ainge said during a press conference to introduce the team's rookies on Monday. The 6-foot-10 big man averaged 5.4 points on 59 percent shooting to go along with 4.4 rebounds for the Celtics last season before doctors found an enlarged aorta which required surgery at the end of March. That ended his season."

finally back in the gym. hope to be back with the C's...taking it one day at a time right now

I definitely would take him back over steamer if it comes down to that. He was great running with Rondo last season . Fab Melo makes steamer expendable since their games are so similar.

Still need a starting center or PF though . Bass or Kaman would be the best options for what we can offer . Then again Kaman will probably get around 8-10 mil, maybe a s+t for bass with a 3rd team involved?

I'd like Wilcox back. We do have a logjam at PF, but at least Wilcox can play C as well. He's great in the open court, and a good rebounder, plus high energy.

If the C's can sign him without using their MLE, I would love to see him come back.

GET WILCOX. Cheap, perfect fit, knows the system (at least somewhat) and runs the floor for some Rondominating passes!
My pic is now, and will be Fab Melo until he posts his first official NBA dbl-dbl. This may be permanent.

I hope he's available for the minimum.

If Bass leaves and no starting PF free agent options are forthcoming, I think he'd make an intriguing option as a spot starter.  Play him 15-20 mpg with the starters, have him run the floor like crazy, crash the boards, and finish in the paint.

Then platoon Sullinger/JJJ/Green at the back-up 4 as appropriate.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Do we have a logjam?  Right now, if KG is a center, we have 0 NBA PFs under contract.  Maybe Sullinger will be one, maybe JJJ will be one.  But right now, they are all just projects and prospects.  So, for the actual rotation, they don't have a logjam...in fact they have gaping holes.

Yes.  And, tell KG he's the one starting at the 4 to keep him happy.

As of right now, Garnett is a PF. This may, and hopefully will change sometime during the season, or hell maybe before. But we should sign a 4/5 to fill in the gaps, anyway. IE, Wilcox.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
For the vet minimum absolutely.

I assume we can do better with the MLE.

Nothing's been announced, but what I keep hearing is that KG wants to go back to the 4, and that Sullinger is likely to get some good minutes right from the get-go. With JJJ, a former first-round pick, waiting in the wings as well, I don't see room for Bass.

This is why I think Boston should sign-and-trade Bass for someone who fills another need—a scoring wing, perhaps, or a legit center?

I also think bringing back Wilcox is possibly a good idea: he can play C as well as PF, so we can use him more at the 5 as long as KG and Sully are taking most of the 4 minutes—and he'll come cheaper than Bass.

would be nice to have 4 different types of PF:

JJJ...long and lean..good jumper

Bass jump shot is pretty good

Wilcox..dirty work inside

Sully..legit low post PF

Those would be pretty sweet
