Assuming Danny gets his top two priorities of signing Ray and Bass, how would you fill out the rest of the roster?  You have 5 spots and 10 Million Dollars to spend.  You can offer up to 5 million a year for a F.A using the M.L.E.

1. Rajon Rondo (11) - * - *
2. Avery Bradley (2) - Ray Allen (6) - *
3. Paul Pierce (16) - Jeff Green (7) - *
4. Brandon Bass (6)  - JaJuan Johnson (2) - Jared Sullinger (1.5)
5. Kevin Garnett (11) - * - Fab Melo (1.5)

Guards: OJ Mayo, Jamal Crawford, Jason Terry, Kirk Hinrich, Nick Young, Sonny Weems, Daniel Greene, Keyon Dooling, E'Twaun Moore, Jonathan Gibson
Wings: Kris Joseph, Mikael Pietrus
Bigs:  Marcus Camby, Carl Landry, Nenad Kristic, Chris Wilcox, Greg Stiemsma, Sean Williams, Joey Dorsey

Cap: 74m
Total: 64m

Well I wouldn't keep Bass, for sure. I'd put KG back at the 4 and sign Camby, then bring in some vet mins to fill out the roster.

KG isn't going to play as much C next year if we wanna keep him healthy. Let bass walk or S+T him, sign camby if possible. Sullinger can replace bass at least minutes wise along with Green's return and some time at the 4.

Ray and Green need to come back to provide a bench that scores and to relieve AB, Pierce, and KG.

If ray can't be bought, I'd try jamal crawford. Possibly for the MLE?
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Let Bass walk.

I'd love to see Hinrich or Billups as a backup for Rondo, but both may command too much money.

Sign Camby (just realized he made 12.9mil last year...yikes!)

At SG I like Mayo, Delfino, Gerald Green, or CJ Miles off the bench, but I'd don't see minutes for these guys if Ray does return.

I like Bass but we have too many PFs and too few minutes for all of them.  I see Sullinger getting at least 10 if not 15 a game. JJJ will get 10.  KG will get the rest, with a smattering of Jeff Green.

I try to get Wilcox and Pietrus back on vet mins.  Wilcox plays the 4/5.  Pietrus plays the 2/3.  Maybe offer Dooling a vet min, but I'd rather see Etwaun Moore get any minutes you'd give Dooling.  Dooling would be a 1/2.

Ray hopefully resign.  And like I mentioned in another post, this is our roster:

PG - Rondo/Bradley/Moore/Dooling

SG - Bradley/Ray/Pietrus

SF - Pierce/J. Green/Pietrus

PF - KG/Sullinger/JJJ/Wilcox

C  - KG/Stiemer/Sullinger/Melo/Wilcox

That's 14 players right there.  You could bring back Sean Williams or Ryan Hollins for more 5 depth.  However in this plan we have the MLE to spend on a decent vet free agent.

I would look at adding another SG/SF scorer with that MLE.  Terry, Crawford, Nick Young, Mayo have all been mentioned.  Or you could try and nab a Camby-type to slot in as your starter/finisher at the 5.  So here is that roster:

PG - Rondo/Bradley/Moore/Dooling

SG - Bradley/Ray/(Mayo,Terry,MLE)/Pietrus

SF - Pierce/J. Green/Pietrus

PF - KG/Sullinger/JJJ/Wilcox

C  - (Camby, MLE)/KG/Stiemer/Sullinger/Melo/Wilcox

That is a deep and competitive team for 2012-2013.

Assuming we keep Bass, Allen, Bradley, and Green?

I'd get Camby or Kaman. Then play something like this for a rotation:

Rondo / AB
Allen / AB / Pierce
Green / Pierce
Bass / Sullinger / Green
KG / Camby / Steisma

My preference would be to get something better than Bass and Green, but that's maybe unlikely now.

Camby is more likely since even a cheaper Kaman will be sought elsewhere for more money. AB should not be our backup PG. Either bring Dooling back or find a cheap replacement to backup Rondo.

Green DOES NOT start until he proves he's ready for that job and when Pierce shows he's really in decline. That honestly may not be until next year when those both pan out.

KG is not our center and bringing back Bass with Sullinger and Green healthy makes little sense. If we want KG around 2-3 years and not 1 or 3/4 of a year, he will stay more at the 4 or of he is at the 5 he won't play as physical to reduce chance of injury. This is why a Camby type player is needed to fill most 5 minutes ahead of KG, Steamer(?), Melo/Hollins/Wilcox/FA

I'd love to get Camby...does anyone think Houston would be interested in Bass as a S&T?  That would open up minutes for JJJ and Sulinger and allow KG to play more 4 during the regular season which he surely would prefer.

  • GOT IT!!!
Rondo/Hinrich
Bradley/Ray/Pietrus or Terry
Pierce/Green
KG/Sullinger/JJ
Camby or Kaman/Steamer/Melo

I think that is the most feasible.

Like to See one or more of these Wilcox , Camby , Jason Terry , or Billups

Camby and Wilcox are Afordable ..I thunk... Wilcox is already trained and knows the deal, and Camby would fit right in.

PG: Rajon Rondo, Jason Terry, E'Twaun Moore
SG: Avery Bradley, Ray Allen,
SF: Paul Pierce, Jeff Green, Mickael Pietrus
PF: Brandon Bass, Jared Sullinger, JaJuan Johnson
C: Kevin Garnett, Greg Stiemsma, Fab Melo

1 spot left open. Joseph to the D-league unless he beats out Pietrus for the job. I kick the tires on Kaman, Camby, & Wilcox for the final roster spot.  I want Kaman, but the money might not work so Camby & Wilcox are more realistic IMO.

Bass is the trade chip & I use that chip if I find out quickly that Sullinger is flat out better than Bass.

please write off KG on the center. he won't be playing at the position unless he is forced to. any discussion of filling out roster must set him on the 4.

Will someone explain to me why I keep seeing lineups that include Josh Smith.....and EVERY player from last year's team besides Bass?

Is Bass really going to bring Smith to town. I doubt it

I'd love to see Delonte West and Leon Powe back in green!
