He also feels the same way says Jared scares him the most to be the biggest draft lottery bust, starts at 5:00 minutes in. This was before the draft oddly enough where he also said KG would retire.  ::)

Hopefully he's wrong on both counts then. 1/2 way there.

i will go on record saying sully will be a potential all star.

the GM's are stupid. just so stupid. he probably asked david khan, larry bird (i dont care, he's not a good GM imo), the maloufs, michael jordan, whoever runs NYC, BK, Atl, and the grizzlies (AKA the guy who's massively responsible for the celtics before danny).

half of the GM's - i really dont understand how they get their jobs. i could do a better job than 90% of them.

im just so glad we have danny.

He is right that about half of Sullinger's slide on the mock drafts had happened before the red flagging from the combine.

dunno... i've heard he could end up a poor man's Carlos Boozer or he could end up a poor man's Ike Diogu.  We'll see.

I think it's pretty safe to say that at #21, he will not be the biggest draft bust.  There's bound to be someone in the picked between #1-20 who has a less successful career, even if Sully unfortunately does not pan out (and I should say I expect him to be a solid rotation player for at least a few seasons.)

If he were picked in the lottery, I suppose that's possible, but my money would be on Dion Waiters. (Although he'll probably get enough minutes on a bad Cleveland team for his chucking to fool people into thinking he's good, based on a nice PPG number.)

To be a draft bust you have to be in the lottery and not meet expectations.

Sullinger slid to 21, how could he be a bust?

Obviously not every GM felt this way because Sullinger didn't go undrafted. There's some risk, but less than a team like Toronto had in nailing the 8th pick overall (which they reached on), Mannix also mentioned that KG would retire...how's that prediction working out?

Yeah,

And Larry Bird will be just another college player, he has a six inch vertical, how's he gonna get his shot off in the NBA.....

Sullingers career will be contingent on his health.
He may make those GM's rue the day, they passed on him.
Time will tell.

Chris Manix is just another journalist, who pop's off for the sake of attracting attention.  And then goes and asks money for it.

This interview was done before the draft, and specifically was talking about *lottery* busts.

If Sullinger had been taken in the lottery, there was definitely some bust potential there, although I think he's less risky than a guy like, say, Drummond.

Slide from the Top 7 to the Top 12 maybe.  Guy was still a lottery pick.

It takes a lot of "brains" to emphatically state a 2-time All American in his Fresh and Soph years is a lock to be a bust.

I like the fact that everyone thinks he sucks.

You can be bust at any level.  A pick that doesn't pan out is a bust.   Sure, it is a bigger bust if they are a lottery.   But Sully was supposed to be a top five talent him sliding is a red flag for certain.

Hopefully, all this stuff will be fuel for him.   I am nervous about the pick and think he struggles against lengthy shot blockers but as a Celtic fan I want him to succeed.

Folks Larry could jump decently prior to an injury in CLE.   People did think that he was too slow, etc.   But he took a team with maybe one other player all the way to the title.   To compare Sullinger to him even because people are detracting from him Sully is an absolute joke.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I think it was pretty safe to say he was not going to be chosen in the lottery after he was was not invited to the go to the draft. Calling him the biggest bust is a real cop out, in my opinion, especially after finding out about the back issue.

Many times when guys turn out to be draft busts it is because they wen;t into the wrong situation with poorly run and coached teams.  I'd say that is the case most of the time.

Does that sound anything like the Boston Celtics?
