Where does Boston go from here?

Well, for starters, we know Kevin Garnett will be back with the Celtics, per CBSSports.com's Jeff Goodman.

The Celtics have to make tough choices. With Jeff Green coming off of heart surgery, they're likely to re-sign him. They will likely let Ray Allen go in free agency (and he'll sign for more than they're willing to pay). Rajon Rondo is the new face of the franchise. Can he be the best player on a championship team?

Is this team coming or going? That's the real question.

Paul Pierce and Garnett are both too old to make the kind of impact they have, even this season. Eventually, it's going to give. For as much as Garnett balked at talk of him being old, it did show in the Conference Finals and it's only going to get worse from here on out. So the Celtics have to move forward. Are first round picks Jared Sullinger and Fab Melo the future? That seems unlikely.

They do have Avery Bradley and a host of young players with talent. But this season is likely to be a hybrid between the old guard making a farewell parade (Pierce, Garnett) and searching for the new guard and whether they can find an identity. It's going to be a very different Celtics team in the fall.

Just reading this article; Celtics fans should ask themselves? Is bringing back guys like Steisma, Bass, Pietrus, Dooling, Wilcox, Sasha, Moore, Daniels, JJ and a disgruntle Ray Allen, going to make the Celtics better next or season or in the future? If none of these guys return, who will fill their spots?

Danny Ainge, basically begged and clawed for Garnett to return, then offered a 36yr w/36Mil for 3yrs. Look, I'm one the biggest KG fans out there, but isn't 36mil/3yrs at bit much for an aging big that only had a resurgence during the second half of the regular season? Another reason for concern regarding KG. Is he willing to play center again, this time for 82 games?

Re-signing Ray Allen?

Clearly Allen, has some bad feelings towards the Celtics. If not, Allen would of agreed to some sort of verbal deal just as KG did. The reality is Allen, at this point has better options. He could sign with the Clippers, Bulls Suns, Grizzles, Knicks, Hawks and get a starting role, or sign with the 2012 NBA Champs, Miami Heat and chase another possible ring.

Are we getting younger?

Doesn't seem like it. Paul, Allen and Kevin are in their mid-30's and aren't getting younger. Age clearly showed in games 6 and 7 of the 2012 ECF. The Big 3 got fatigued late in the 4th against Miami. If the Big 3 returns, then this team will need better talent. Better talent with youth and athleticism. Guys that can create their own shots.

What if Jeff Green doesn't return?

What adequate, athletic free agent swing-men are their to back up Pierce?

Shouldn't Ainge go after an adequate center?

Who comes to mind beside Hibbert or Howard, because they ain't coming to Boston.

Can the 2012-13 Celtics better than 2011-12?

I think so, but not with this bench that gave no help during the postseason. I love guys like Dooling, Pietrus, Wilcox, Stemsa, Daniels, Hollins, Sasha, Moore and JJ, but they played in spurts during the regular and postseason. Playing in spurts will not get the job done against teams like Miami, OKC, Chicago, San Antonino and etc.

I could go on, but I won't. But reading Matt Moore's quotes I kind of agree with his feelings on next season's Celtics. What do u guys think?

When was this written? Because when you say, "They will likely let Ray Allen go in free agency (and he'll sign for more than they're willing to pay)", you lose a ton of credibility.

OP, don't fret, we're in good shape. We'll probably stay under 74M in order to use both the MLE and LLE. Plus have Bird rights to Allen, Green, Bass, and Krstic. Adding talent to a team that was minus key pieces and still had the Heat on the ropes in 12th round.

Agree with u, but the Celtics lead the ECF 3-2 heading into Boston with all the momentum. They just didn't have the will or energy that night. Not sure what played a role. With or without Wilcox, Bradley, Green or JO, the Celtics were up 3-2 and should of won. At least I think so.  ;)

this has been addressed in another thread. we have gotten plenty younger already. You could use the tired excuse as to why philly took us 7 games also. we shoulda beat philly and the heat in 5. funny he does not talk about outplaying the heat in 4 straight games. Does this guy realize the heat are a great team also? and are no pushover or bunch of bums? talk about a negative nancy glass half full type, this matt moore. Funny he does not talk about this "tired" celtic team had a 12 point lead on the road in game 7. I think alot of our problems was no bench and the injuries. call it an excuse but it is the truth. we will be better next year depth wise and that in turn helps out your starters immensely in regards to rest time.

oh and that line from Moore about "their age showed in the ECF"..really? what an oxymoronic statement. Hey Matt Moore, you realize how many YOUNG guys would have loved to be in that situation? game 7 ECF??? unbelievable. As if it is easy to get there.
