come on does anyone really think he is going anywhere other than bos or mia?

memphis has no shot at a title

I'm not sure I agree with this, actually. I view Memphis as the 2nd or 3rd best team in the West next year, with a decent chance against the Thunder. Probably a top 5-7 team in the NBA with or without Ray.
2023 Historical Draft: Toronto Raptors

Point Guard: Anfernee Hardaway, Fat Lever, Terrell Brandon
Shooting Guard: Paul Westphal, Paul Pressey
Small Forward: Marques Johnson, Danny Granger
Power Forward: Jermaine O'Neal, Bobby Jones, Kiki Vandeweghe
Center: Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka

Agreed -- I think Memphis and the Clippers can both make more attractive offers to Ray than Miami can. More money. More playing time. Larger role in the team. Both title contenders.

I bet TA is steaming over this.  Unless he's been promised to keep his starting gig.

TA left the C's partiall to get away from Paul and Ray.  Now his new team pursues Ray.  Ha!

I actually think Ray would work terrifically with Wroten off the bench. Wroten and TA as a combo, while electric on the defensive end, is a horrific shooting combination. You start Conley and Tony to have a combination of defense and shooting, and then go with Wroten and Ray to keep a level of defensive intensity, but to also to use Ray as a shooter to protect Wroten's lack of range. And Ray would love to play with a guy as gifted at driving and passing as Wroten. That's a really strong four man backcourt, although I'd admit that I'm really high on Wroten. You've also got Selby sitting there as a 5th guard whenever he is ready to contribute.

Then you have a nice big man rotation of Gasol, Randolph, Arthur, Speights, Cunningham. All that's needed is an upgrade at backup 3 for Gay and you're golden with a really deep, balanced and talented 9-10 man rotation.

imagine if that Ray for Mayo trade had actually gone through... kinda ironic how both teams are linked to those players even now in the offseason

For what it's worth, I'd do Ray for Mayo and Wroten Jr every day of the week (it would've been Mayo and a first).
There are other versions of the rumor where DA was asking for more than that.

whoa...

Would have been a very good trade...

Im still a little upset about passing on Wroten...

They say he's a cross between Rondo and Tyreke Evans....Potentially...

no rumor, published reports said the deal was done, Ray even got the call that he was traded, until Mayo said he didn't want to play in boston.

I would think Memphis would be thrilled if they could orchestrate an S&T with Boston for Ray as it would save their MLE.  But if it were for Mayo, he would have to agree.

BTW, wouldn't Boston be in pretty much the same spot they are right now if the Ray-Mayo deal went through?  I realize DA was pushing for a draft pick, but Mayo likely would not have signed here and he'd be a UFA now anyway (I think).

If I where Ainge, I would still hold out to get Wroten or their 2013 1st round pick as well.
