With the following players back I would think the Celtics would be plenty young and athletic.

Jeff Green - age 26
Rajon Rondo - age 26
Avery Bradley - age 22
JaJuan Johnson - age 23
Brandon Bass - age 28
Greg Stiemsma - age 27

With the addition of the following players we get even younger.

Jared Sullinger - age 20
Fab Melo - age 22

And if Ray Allen is replaced by an OJ Mayo that continues to make us younger and more athletic than last year. Plus I would expect Pietrus, Hollins, Moore, Williams, Pavlovic and Dooling to be upgraded for better players.

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.

Don't forget Kris Joseph, whose 23. I am hopeful he'll make the team and play a rich man's Pavlovic role.
I like Marcus Smart

I'm not holding out a lot of hope of Moore or Joseph being on this team. They will still be in win now mode and I can't see them having one third of the team be severely young and inexperienced. I think Johnson, Sully and Melo will be playing a lot in the D-League(barring injuries to others in front of him) and the rest of the roster will be vets or current players.

I think Sullinger and JJJ will be playing quite a bit for the Celtics. Probably not starting the year in NBDL

I know he's not guaranteed yet, but I really think Moore is in their plans.  He's also very cheap!

I would be fine with getting an athletic 29-31-year old who fits in with the team culture and defense.  I believe that using the full MLE to sign a 25-26 year old to a maximum-length contract is how teams end up on the treadmill to mediocrity.

Guys, I love Ray and KG, they have done a lot and they will still be effective, but locking them up til' they're 39? I mean it's Ray and KG so I'll be okay with it, but now we have interest in Crawford, Terry, and Rashard Lewis who are all 32+.  I was kind of hoping for younger/more athletic guys to run with Rondo/Avery, but we didn't do that in the draft and it seems like we're not doing that in Free Agency.

I wrote a long post a few weeks back about how this whole "we need to get young" stuff was nonsense, because we are in fact a reasonably young team to begin with.

Yes KG and Ray are old, in NBA terms.  Pierce is close to that age, but you rarely hear as many people call Kobe old as you do Pierce, and they are basically the same age.

Outside of that...who else are you worried about?

Athleticism, on the other hand, was not our issue when we played the Heat.  Our problems were Rebounding and Scoring in the 4th quarter.  We have made draft picks aimed at helping our Rebounding problems, and hopefully increased production from our younger reserves will let our starters rest all season so in Game 7 against the Heat next year, they don't crumble.

  • Let them hate, as long as they fear
"That WE were suppossed to become younger and more athletic'? Naaauuh. You must have heard wrong. What you heard was that some teams were getting younger and athletic. We are going to go with KG, PP and KG until they start collecting their SS. Then we will start getting younger and athletic. Just be patient. We've been thru that raod before. Just pe patient. You will see.
And someday in the midst of time,
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine

Nice, Faith,

I love that Rondo and Bradley mix.

Rondo and Bradley should be good as guards go for years to come.  Our draft didn't hep in the athletic area but we got two potential young bigs.

I honestly see JJJ and Sullinger contributing alot this year to the team..

Sullinger is nba ready, grabs rebounds and can play in the post. I wouldnt be surprised in the least to see him play the baby davis role in 08.
