I wouldn't give much over the qualifying offer.  I think most of the vet minimum big men out there can give us as much as Stiemer.

If we're going to stay under the "apron" and be able to use our MLE, every dollar is going to count.

TP - In a world without the worries of cap space and exceptions, he seems deserving of a little more as he melded well with our team; however, he just isn't 'that' great of a prospect that we need to make sure we don't lose him. Heck, Hollins was getting more playing time than him in the playoffs. I like the guy and would like him to return with the QO, but we may need to look forward...
are you kidding me? hollins got more playing time because he didnt have plantar fasciitis like stiemsma did. theres a reason that stiemsma has the celtics Qualifying Offer and hollins  is not out of the league, because we ARE looking forward.

I'm with you on this, lightspeed.  Stiemer did some good work last year--through injury.

Nothing. Greg Stiemsma is a stiff. Losing minutes to Ryan Hollins is a daming indictment on Stiemsma.
you realize stiemsma had plantar fasciitis during the playoffs right?

did you ever stop and realize why stiemsma just got a celtic offer and not hollins? oh you didnt, you just thought you would diss the dude without even thinking about the situation.

The legend of Greg Stiemsma. Steamer is a lot more than a stiff. Stiemsma has majestic stone hands. Blessed with knees that don't bend. Naturally gifted for picking up fouls.

$2 million a year max. I am still trying to figure out the love affair with Stiemsma.

His per minute numbers are actually very good, his shot-blocking per minute numbers are some of the best in the league, he is actually quite polished offensively and has range out to 18 feet.  He was an average NBA center last season (32nd out of 55 in PER.)  He is 6'11".   These guys do not grow on trees. That doesn't mean we overpay him, but if no team is going to blow him away ($3M+), you have to think hard about walking away from him.

Plus he is a great story and the kind of player you want to root for.

The qualifying offer or bust. NO interest in going a cent over. His contributions were minimal at best, and almost nonexistent through the playoffs.

We're stuck with Melo. I'd rather find out if he can play than overplay the Steamer. Qualifying offer or let him walk.

TP. We have a 3rd stringer rookie on our roster, that's Melo. If Stiemsma wants more money, he deserves it, but he needs to get it elsewhere.

In 40 less minutes in the playoffs steamer had outrebounded hollins by over 10 boards and had more blocks and more points also. He also shoot better sometimes doc is dumb, and yes i believe ainge was lazy or dumb in not getting a team option.

He had the best defensive rating on the Celtics (for anyone playing significant minutes) at 90. Omer Asik had 92. KG had 94.

Stiemsma's defense = he blocks shots when helping out on other players. And, he very good at this. He is terrible defending the pick and roll and terrible in most one-on-one situations.

noones perfect, thats why the concept of a role player exists. steimsma is your prototypical role player, a player you pay to play their role, stiemsma plays his role very well. no player is perfect, but we'll have him on our bench and unleash him when we need a shot blocker on the court.

I think ainge is trying everyone back, that is bring back green, allen, one of bass/krstic and one of steamer/wilcox plus a free agent big say camby, they should be able do all this and stay below the apron $74 mill, in that case I expect that steamer will only be offered the value of the bi annual exception starting at 1.957 mil, 2 years 4 mill in total.

Think bradon or krstic, green and allen will all sign/be offered around the six millon dollar range. Krstic might get slightly less.

From Larry coon page we can only offer the bi-annual after we have spend the MLE.
