#Celtics RFA Greg Stiemsma meeting with #Timberwolves today. Source says C's remain his first choice.

According to Blakely, using an actual, real-life source, apparently, Steamer is meeting with the Wolves. Let's say he gets an offer sheet from one of the teams he's bound to meet with. What's your maximum on him?

I'd probably set it somewhere around $5 million over 2 years. Maybe I would do $6 million, seeing as the market for centers nowadays is crazy. Hopefully one of the more cap-savvy folks around here can discuss whether it really matters, and if it would eat into our exceptions.

I wouldn't give much over the qualifying offer.  I think most of the vet minimum big men out there can give us as much as Stiemer.

If we're going to stay under the "apron" and be able to use our MLE, every dollar is going to count.

That is too high let him walk and use Melo.

No more than 4 over two. Maybe a team option third year.

If Fab Melo is going to eat into Stiemsmas minutes, we might as well let him go, if he gets more than a 120 percent raise (even though I'm a big fan).

I don't know why the Timberwolves want Stiemsma. It will only make sense if they amnesty Darko Milicic to get cap space, and Stiemsma is hardly an upgrade (although probably more coachable).

TP - In a world without the worries of cap space and exceptions, he seems deserving of a little more as he melded well with our team; however, he just isn't 'that' great of a prospect that we need to make sure we don't lose him. Heck, Hollins was getting more playing time than him in the playoffs. I like the guy and would like him to return with the QO, but we may need to look forward...

Steamer - 14 minutes, 2.9 pts, 3.2 rebs, l.6 blocks
Ryan Hollins - 13 minutes, 3.4 pts, 2.1 rebs, .4 blocks
Jordan Hill - 14 minutes, 5 pts, 4.8 rebs, .7 blocks

And if you just look at March 2nd through April 20th, when Steamer got double figure minutes in all but 2 games, he averaged 4.2 pts, 4 rebs and 2.1 blocks.  In his 28 games with Boston, Chris Wilcox averaged 5.4 pts, 4.4 rebs and .3 blocks.

You certainly don't want to break the bank on Steamer, but don't undersell how servicable he is while offering elite level shot blocking.

Kahn was the one who gave Ryan Hollins $7mil/3yrs, right?

That might give us an indication of what Kahn is considering offering Greg Stiemsma to join the Wolves. Kahn signed Hollins with Big Al and Darko already in place at center also. How much he valued Hollins as a third stringer behind those two.

Another thing to consider here is out lack of bird-rights.

Any offer over the QO will have to be matched using either a portion of the BAE or MLE.

The good news (I guess) is teams can only offer up to the full MLE due to some complicated cap rules.

I think we'll have to just accept Steamer will be gone if anybody gives him an offer over 2mil.

I understand the desire to stay in the salary range for the MLE, but at some point, I think it stops making sense if we are willing to sacrifice the players that we are interested in bringing back just to maintain the MLE.

I think you are actually the one who mentioned this point in another thread.

The qualifying offer or bust. NO interest in going a cent over. His contributions were minimal at best, and almost nonexistent through the playoffs.

We're stuck with Melo. I'd rather find out if he can play than overplay the Steamer. Qualifying offer or let him walk.
