Team's needs, with Garnett coming back:
1) Scoring
2) Rebounding
3) Defensive stopper

The discussion of Mayo/Terry/Crawford is about the first, and drafting Melo, making an offer to Steamer, and potentially re-signing Wilcox is about the second. But Pierce is getting older, and we need someone at the 3 who can play LeBron (and Durant if we get that far). Anyone out there who might fill that role?

As an aside, I'm still not sure of the love for Jeff Green. He will be fun to watch during the regular season, but when the playoffs come and things slow down, I think we're going to wish we'd spent more of our money on guys who can create off the dribble, hit open 3s, and play tough D.

There are about 5 or 10 players in the league that fit that description. We have one.

I think Green is a great back up, considering he could start for just about any team in the league.

Peach's is there for the D and 3 point shooting. I think right now we can only get what we need from a couple people, not out of one guy. Usually when you want a complete package of def, creating their own shot, and 3 point shooting, its a all star, or near to it, and thats not happening unless they trade PP.

Sure -- probably split across guys, but still, cap space is cap space, and since they renounced Green, any money that goes to him is money that can't go to someone else.

We still need a young defensive wing who can play defense. That along with giving up offensive rebounds, and offensive stagnation were the weaknesses of this year's team. Is no one else worried about this?

Pretty sure we have NOT renounced Jeff Green, and we in fact have his bird rights.

I would love to see a wing defender come on board, but I haven't heard anything rumor wise about available players who fit the bill.
"You're skating on pretty thin ice around here, McGee!"
"Sounds like the ice's problem."

I want Rodney Carney.

Good size, very athletic. Above average defender with elite defensive potential. Solid rebounder. Excellent finisher in transition. Decent perimeter jump-shooter.

He'll make a nice deep reserve behind some combination of Ray - Pietrus - Jeff Green.

I loved Carney when he was coming out of Memphis, but at this point I don't know if we have the roster space for a guy like that.

Pierce has become a defensive liability, his offense is dropping.
There's no Players out there to man up against a Durant, Melo or LeBron.
I would say the best way to defend these talented players is to make them play you. LeBron took plays off in the Playoffs with the help of Battier.  Let's get some scorers so no one on the floor can take plays off.

How many NBA small forwards not named Lebron, Kevin, or Carmelo are better scorers than Paul Pierce?
