Whether KG starts at center or power forward next year, I like the idea of surrounding him with a couple of young prospects at both positions (Sullinger and Johnson at the 4 and Stiemsma and Melo at the 5), and another veteran combo big (Wilcox) to start alongside him and be his big man assistant coach.

That's a risky big combination, I know, considering Garnett's age, Wilcox's fragility, and the young guys' inexperience, but I just don't see another center available right now that's worth the big money we'd be bound to have to throw at him, and I'd rather give JJJ the shot at the 4 than Brandon at a fraction of the cost.

We are squarely in the contend-now-while-rebuilding-now stage that so many have always claimed was an impossible place to be.  I think it's possible.

Somewhere in the master plan is to emerge from all this with a backcourt of Rondo and Bradley, a bigs rotation of Johnson, Melo and Sullinger, and perhaps Green as a wing. They have the upside to make it work, but obviously those three bigs need to step up over the next couple years.

And soon as bass opted out, I figured (and hoped) he was gone.  Not hating on him, but it's always been between bass and green in my view, and I prefer green.  Not having drafted sullinger, I'd be downright shocked if he came back.

Some people are just built skinny, but I'm hopeful.

Kevin Garnett is one of those people.

At some point during this process, Danny is going to have to find another star to pair with Rajon Rondo.  I'm not necessarily sold that any of Bradley, Johnson, Green, Melo, and Sullinger are or will ever be that guy, but neither, do I believe, are Brandon Bass, OJ Mayo, or Omer Asik, and the latter all will likely come with heftier and possibly more hampering price tags.

If Danny has a little patience instead of overpaying and over extending for the first free agent that shows himself, I think we'll ultimately be in better shape, not just for this season, but for the future as well.

There are still some unknowns--is Sully's back OK? is Danny planning to trade either of this year's (or last year's) draft picks?--but presuming, for the moment, that all of these guys are staying, I think Bass is trade bait to fill another need, namely a scoring wing (2 or 3). Sully could be the Cs' power forward of the future, and he already has a more diverse skill set than Bass, and JJJ (in my opinion) also has the potential to be a more complete player than Bass, having Bass' shooting range along with a post-up game and more athleticism.

Not sure if Mayo is Danny's target, but I think that's the kind of player he's going to use Bass to acquire.

I don't think the overlap of minutes is that great between JG and BB.  I think most of JG's time is going to be at the 3 backing up PP, or at least I hope so.

I think though that it is a money numbers game to know if we can resign both.  I would be happy if JG BB both came back and we lost Hollins replaced with Sully.

Keeping bass will hurt the development of Johnson. Johnson needs minutes. Be ain't getting them behind sully and bass

Devil's advocate: is Bass Johnson's ceiling? 12 points, 6 rebounds in 30 minutes a night?

I think you are spot on.

JJJ will be another Bass: 12p 6r, great jump shot, can put back basket and attach the rim occationally. he'll be there in two years, then get a contract similar to Bass and BBD's. They are all drafted at the end of 1st and beginning of 2nd, so the ceiling will be similar.

People hope he'll be better because he's tall, but again he hasn't got a strong body like Bass's.

Having said that if he can do what Bass does by the end of this season, then it's not bad outcome for the C's.

2 year deal makes sense.

I also wouldn't worry about redundancy, hurting development, or anything like that at this point. The reality is that someone is going to get hurt. Most likely, multiple people are going to go down at the same time. Whether it's for the whole year, a few weeks, a month and a half, you get the point. If Johnson doesn't get playing time next year, it's his own fault because whoever we sign as a center is going to be injury-prone (looking at targets), KG will probably have a minor bump and bruise somewhere, Sully has a bad back, etc.

Bottom line, we need all the talented players we can get. If they fit together perfectly, that's just gravy.

I think we have a "Mayo" type in Moore...would do a S/T for a 3

You can never have too many big men, guys will get hurt, Kg will have games that he should rest to save his knees. I'd love to sign and trade him for Josh Smith but I don't see that as a viable alternative.

He's most likely going to be a S&T, the most likely scenario the way the dominoes seem to be falling is him being apart of a Josh Smith deal. There seems to be way too much smoke involved on this one in order for there not to be some type of truth involved. Sadly I believe that Avery Bradley would be involved as well. I don't think Ainge drafted Sullinger and Melo to trade them.

I don't see much smoke suggesting Danny's looking to package Bradley and Bass for Smith.
