I know this will cause mayhem on the site but I have been watching tape, not just YouTube highlights, actual games and Green looks good.

He still has a great shooting stroke, he shot 39% from three last season and he still has an outstanding first step and attacks the rim. Additionally he has learned to post up and does it frequently to smaller players. That in particular I was impressed with as it shows growth and improved basketball IQ.

Clearly it was hard to tell how much D he was playing while on the lowly Nets but as scorer coming off the bench I think he could be a great re-addition to the team.

Just think of him and Rondo on the floor for even 15 minutes or so a game......

Eh, his statistics seem to be inflated by playing in a system so lacking in scorers. But if he can be the player that you state to be, and he comes at a much cheaper price than say, a more proven SG, then hell yes I'd be all in for him returning in green.

That would give us a lot of financial flexibility to get a quality, young center instead of a temporary scrub like Asik.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I'd be okay(not like, excited) with it I guess, but only at a min contract.

At least he's saying the right things and saying how he's a whole different player than he was during his first stint with the Celtics in this interview:

But fit issues aside, man, as a fan, this guy is nothing short of spectacular on the open court. I remember when he did that windmill alley oop -- would definitely be a fan favorite.

OJ Mayo has some personality issues as well, but Gerald shouldn't hurt locker room chemistry like Mayo has a chance to do.

I'd take him on a cheap contract.  I agree that we could use somebody with his scoring capabilities.  He'd likely be open to a small, short-term contract that would leave us with plenty of money for other FA's while also protecting our future cap flexibility.

Also, while I doubt he'll ever be a great defender, I do think he would make some sense playing next to Bradley.  Avery's suffocating on-ball defense forces bad passes, and Gerald's length could let him be a threat in the passing lanes.

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
Take him on the cheap. People forget how tall and long he is. He'd be incredible to run with Avery and Rondo.
I guess you could stick him at small forward or put him on Lebron/Wade with his size- I think he's actually slightly taller than Pierce.

Still amazes me how far he fell to us at 18 that year after his high school career. His high school stats were along the lines of 30/10/7/4 (blocks!) and he was high scorer in McDonalds game AND won the dunk comp.
Still seems like so much potential was lost when he got traded to  Milwaukee and railed the pine behind the other SG/SFs they had.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Who would have thought a half decade later these threads would still be popping up? My gosh, the power of the dunk.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I'd love to have him.

I've seen him play, he's learned how to be an NBA player.

Look at his numbers from this last season, efficient and productive.

Well said. But there's nothing wrong about wanting a former Celtic coming back. Some people here wanted Delonte back, some people would like to have Perk back. Even BBD would be welcome here by some of his finest fans, and, for the right price, by most people.

I'd love to have TA back, although there's not a chance to it. For the right price, all those kids would be welcome back.

Gerald used to be in the Antoine category, but the kid has matured, so I'd like him in green for the right price. Gerald + Jeff would be a nice Green duo.

Gerald Green is not walking through that door.

That ship has sailed already.  Frankly, I'd rather use that roster spot for a better all around player like Keyon Dooling or Marquis Daniels.

  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
I'd love to have him back. It seems to me that he now knows how to play the game and not just relying on athletic ability. He's been playing smart now.

For cheap though, like about 2 million max. Just to try it out.

Jesus Christ people, do you think it's that hard to be good playing for a Nets team as awful as last season's?
When you lose, the easy part is to see who gives up. Giving up is very simple. You basically take your stuff and walk away. To continue to work and to continue to compete is one of the most difficult things, especially when you really don't have anything - KG
