Hickson was terrific at the end of the season for them.

Did Hickson play that well for Portland? My impression of him was that he was getting a lot of minutes in blowout losses and padding his stats both (1) in weak Blazers lineups, and, (2) when the games were already out of hand.

The more Hickson seemed to play, the more Portland seemed to lose.

Hickson, who played 19 games with the Blazers after he was claimed off waivers from Sacramento, averaged 15.1 points and 8.3 rebounds in 32 minutes a game for Portland. -Taken from the Article.

But saying JJ padded his stats is a ridiculous statement given the fact that Portland was tanking after giving away Gerald Wallace and Roy retired.
Exactly -- they were playing these lousy lineups with the likes of Jonny Flynn, Elliot Williams, Nolan Smith, Luke Babbitt, Hasheem Thabeet. Even their better players weren't up to much (Joel Przybilla, Raymond Felton, Kurt Thomas). They were just giving guys a run-out and seeing what they had to offer and getting their butts handed to them on a regular basis.

Hickson's production wasn't coming in tight competitive games against quality competition. They were meaningless minutes. Big blowout losses. No pressure environment. Just run up and do whatever you want because nothing matters. Lose-lose-lose-lose.

Not a good indication of what Hickson can offer on a quality team.

I agree completely with your analysis. Anything in the range of 3 million I would consider. I don't like him enough to overpay for talents comparable if not less than Bass.

Some more stats though are can be found at: http://espn.go.com/nba/player/_/id/3437/jj-hickson

For example in 10-11 at Clevland he averaged for 80 games /66 started for 28 minutes 14 points and 9 rebounds. Hell he played for bad teams for the most part. If he would do better on a better team is a matter of opinion and chance. Again I wouldn't overpay for his services even though I do like him.
Yea if you can get him cheap and he wants to be here it's a no brainer, if Sullingers back acts up midway through the season or whatever he could be shelved till next year so it won't hurt we need someone that'll crash the boards and play in the paint

My understanding is that JJ Hickson is a selfish player on offense who does not or cannot play defense.  Weak-minded basketball fans may be mesmerized by highlight reel scoring, but I suspect there are D-Leaguers and undrafted rookie free agents who are better fits for the Celtics.

Like No Pass Bass (weak pick-and-roll defender). All in good fun.

At least Bass seems to try and doesn't come across as completely stupid.

Well, this is bizarre.

The Blazers have signed J.J. Hickson to a one-year deal for $4 million.

That's right: the Blazers have signed Hickson to a one-year deal for less than the amount of the QO they declined a couple weeks ago.

It would have been bizarre had they signed him for more than the QO. They like him, but not at the price his QO was. Nice move by Portland. Surprised Hickson couldn't find a ream offering multiple years.

I can't remember the last time a team was able to bring back a UFA for single year at an amount less than the declined QO. Usually they let him go, or another team swoops in and makes an offer.
