Jajuan johnson is due to get some playing time last year, and we now have Jared sullinger who should be able to contribute.

I doubt Danny is going to want to

A. overpay for brandon bass
B. have 2 backup PF's just sit on the bench who(especially Johnson) seem ready to take a bigger role.
C. we can get Wilcox for likely cheaper

I think we definitely see a S&T of Bass this summer for maybe Mayo or a center....

Yeah, it was a perfect 1-year marriage but I don't see it continuing (although that'd be nice). Celtics got a really cheap, productive year from Bass en route to a playoff run. Bass got a year to showcase his skills on the biggest stage and get overpaid somewhere else. If we can S&T him for something nice, that'd be icing on the cake here.
2023 Historical Draft: Toronto Raptors

Point Guard: Anfernee Hardaway, Fat Lever, Terrell Brandon
Shooting Guard: Paul Westphal, Paul Pressey
Small Forward: Marques Johnson, Danny Granger
Power Forward: Jermaine O'Neal, Bobby Jones, Kiki Vandeweghe
Center: Marc Gasol, Serge Ibaka

I think Danny and Doc would love to have Bass back, but we aren't going to be willing to pay what some other team will.  Wish the guy well regardless though, he was great for us this year.

Even if he is traded for a solid player with an expiring contract, that would be great.

not having to watch Da Baby was relief enought.   Nothing else it got BBD off the team.  ;D

Bass has a nice jumper , but he has no game in the paint and gets abused by taller bigs. He also is not the greatest overall defender .  Good guy .  Just not sure he is worth the extra money.

Wait, what evidence says that Johnson is ready for a bigger role?

Well right now the last two drafts make up one-third of our roster, so something has got to give. Ready or not, these kids are going to have a bigger role this year.

I'm in agreement. But I also wonder what do y'all think he is worth to the C's? And what do you think he'll get in the end?

I think that other GMs will view Bass the same way we do. He is a solid bench player, but over matched as a starter.

Value to Boston: the years is the catch... so I'd say $12/2, if KG comes back and the C's can't land another starter level big man.

Final contract: some other team will give him $22/4.

I think Sullinger will be ahead of Johnson in the rotation. He's just so much more polished. Johnson is going to need a really big off season / summer league / camp in order to prove he is ready for non garbage minutes. But anyway I think that the thread is spot on in that these 2 players make Bass a little more expendable.

I think you're undervaluing Bass, but somewhere around there. If Davis got 26 over 4, I can't see Bass only getting 22 in this free agent market.

Maybe. But with each passing year the middle class is set to get squeezed more and more as a harsher luxury tax is right around the corner. Its practically going to be a hard cap.

If I am a young rising team with cap space i don't want to overpay Bass, who is probably the 30th or 40th best PF in the NBA. The teams that are the most interested in him will probably only have the MLE to offer.

Orlando giving Davis 26/4 was terrible. Then again, they also gave Lewis that monster deal a few years ago. I think the league looks at Orlando as a complete mess.

I suppose all it takes is one team to get desperate and overpay a guy. We'll see if it happens.

I'd say it's about 70/30 against. The odds of Bass staying.

Well if KG signs and we sign green then I see Bass as sign and trade bait.  He did a very nice job starting for us, but as we all saw , he is a very good sub, an ok starter.  If KG plays any pf then we have sullinger who i think will contribute right away, cheap wilcox available in the background, green who can give you minutes at pf in a running lineup and JJJ who has to prove he belongs THIS year or he'll be part of a trade.

I'm neither here not there with Bass. He took far to many ill advised shots when his game was down. To me, all the tools are there but the mental application for long periods appears lacking.

I still don't understand why someone with BB's bulk is not a good rebounder.
