  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I'm not the biggest Simmons fan, but parts (many parts) are just hilarious in his post draft recollection of the nights events.

Him being a Celtics fan adds some familiarity too, the feelings of anticipation of landing Royce White and his hopes of drafting 'anyone but Fab Melo' at 22 were common amongst many of us.

Worth the read if you have 5-10 minutes to spare.

"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Yep, some genuinely funny/snarky comments in there.

But I think he's wrong about the Celtics being able to roll over the Melo pick indefinitely. If someone can tell him that, I think he'll feel better about the pick.

Yeah, I don't think that's how protected picks work - I think we have to take it the first time it falls outside the protected range.  Otherwise it wreaks havoc on a team's ability to move future picks.

On the Wizards taking Beal:

Quote
"Right player, right spot," says House, a longtime Washington fan. "It was a very un-Wizard-like pick. We needed a guy who could shoot at the basket and not at his teammates." Hey now.

The Celtic stuff was fall out of my chair funny!

He is dead on about needing athletes, sad to say neither of our picks qualify as that. :'(

I also am a love/hate follower of Simmons but this was his best draft diary probably.  I enjoyed it a lot.

I was also in gut punch mode when White was picked then Jones who was my actual hope and he slipped way too far IMO.  But recovering today and am optimistic.

In a couple different paragraphs he writes of the Cavaliers, providing a solid, yet humorous analysis of how stupid they were.  The "God hates Cleveland" quote is classic Simmons.  Funny stuff, always giving a good laugh.  It's a different form of journalism, but I really like reading his stuff.

If you are a Cav's fan, honestly, you have to be standing on the ledge this morning...  Their evening was stupidly brutal.

I love where Simmons highlighted Andy Katz saying "Sullinger has bulging d***s."

 ;D ;D ;D

ANd that top comment when the article leads you to the video... That seriously made my day. I can't stop laughing.

After all the bad management decisions during the LeBron era and they seem like they are continuing in the Irving era.

I used to live there and still have friends there... yes they are on a ledge.  The Waiters pick was a crazy reach.  If you didn't want Barnes, you have to draft Robinson.  But they didn't because they made a terrible reach pick last year on Thompson, so let's keep letting that mistake hurt us!

Simmons is right on with his plan and I suggested it at the time: take the European C the Raptors did who is supposed to be good and keep him overseas last year.  Then this year they could have taken Robinson and they'd have a good front court when he comes over.

Just the worst mangement there.

Even if they wanted Waiters, they could've traded down to the 7-9 range and gotten him there.  I've gotta believe Golden St or Toronto would've been willing to move up to get Barnes (I know GS got him anyway, but they didn't know it at the time) or Detroit to get Drummond.

Then you get a bonus asset and you don't have to pay Waiters as much to boot.  Just a baffling move all around, and I like Waiters as a prospect.
