First off, for Fab Melo's sake, I think it's great that we got him. We are perfect for him with Rondos passing and ability to find the big man around the rim, as well as KG's mentor skills as a professional and a defensive godzilla.

Question:How many easy buckets did Rondo hand Perkins, Shaq, Erden, Krstic around the rim?
Rondo made Perkins look like he had an offensive game- Perk averaged 10 points with us- Look at him now, barely 5 points a game. I won't even begin to discuss his finals performance. Puke.

So what's Danny's recipe for drafting Melo?  The cookbook is as follows:
1)draft big, strong center with potential.
2)get him in the gym and lose fat weight, add muscle.
3)Teach him simple post moves and head fakes.
4)Put him on the floor with Rondo (and then KG) and watch his defense and offense flourish with easy bucket after easy bucket around the rim. (he already shoots 57%)
5) Trade him after he averages 10/8 for waaayyy more value than he's worth and he's demanding 8 million per season.

In this case, we also have option 6, which is that Fab Melo becomes a legit second tier star in the NBA and one of the most feared defensive centers in the NBA, molded on Kevin Garnett.
Just like good old Perk.

If Sully works out well we will have another guy that we can move down the line for the ultimate mega trade to put a superstar next to Rondo.
I'm not saying they won't work but Danny figures these guys can step in this year and contribute- but they both hold fantastic gambling value in the long run.
Melo's already been written off as a bust. Sullenger has played 8 years at the highest level with the same back.

Just don't write them or Danny Ainge off completely- it's all part of a bigger plan to get Rondo another ring down the line.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.
