I agree.  That's a huge overpay in a deep, relatively even draft like this one.  Don't know what the Cavs were thinking - must have just fallen in love with Zeller or something.

I think they just didn't want four rookies on the team. I think two was enough for them, so the move up from Zeller was a way of clearing roster space as well. They already have enough young guys.

Perhaps, but couldn't they have gotten something better than Zeller?  Like I said, they must have just fallen in love with him.

What is wrong with a true 7 foot center who can run the floor, shoot a jumper, play in the post and make free throws?

The chances of their 2 second round picks contributing were slim so I don't mind moving up from 24 to get him.

Someone already made the point but the Cavs didn't need 4 rookies

Seriously.  The Cavs are still terribly run I can't believe it.

Between the Thompson pick last year and Waiters this year idk what they are doing.

I think for those 3 picks (regardless of who they were) they could have done better than #17 for Zeller.

All it takes is one. I can see Zeller averaging 12 and 7 next year. I don't see Crowder or James making much of an impact except as average role players at best. Cunningham could be ok but I will take Zeller over those 3. Good bigs like him are harder to come by.

I don't see how the Mavs fleeced Cleveland. Trading those two second round picks to move up from #24 to #17 looks a good deal to me.

Not enthusiastic about the Zeller draft selection though.

But if the idea was to GET Zeller, then they did get fleeced.  Drafts are not about number placements, but about PEOPLE.  Zeller became the pick at #17, which is really dumb.  In 2 selections they drafted a 6th man on a college team and a future backup center.  How can any fan in Cleveland call this a good draft???

Chad Ford gave them an A-, he seems to like it.

They could have just stayed put, drafted Barnes or Robinson & then grabbed Jones III or Teague at #24.

Stayed put in round 2 and grabbed Draymond Green & Doron Lamb.

Tell me what I just did wasn't better than Waiters & Zeller??

I read one GM's opinion that makes a TON of sense: draft for talent...sign FA's for need.

The Cav's had a terrible draft no matter how one slices it.  I feel the picks I would have made would have given them more ASSETS - which is what picks are all about.  What you don't keep flip over for veteran talent.  The Cavs will be stuck in mediocrity for YEARS to come...they are that bad.  This draft did NOTHING for them.
