Pass on Orange Juice Mayonnaise for anything more than $5 mil a year. His career is the definition of underwhelming.
I would love Josh Smith though, but if you're the Hawks wouldn't you rather have Pau over Bass?

This is true. The Hawks can get more value for Smith, ecspecially after the season he just had.

Yes, but how about Bass, and either 21 and 22, plus the 2nd rd Charlotte pick next year? Makes sense especially if White slides and we draft him in order to trade his rights to Atlanta, who wants him.

I'm not sure-do the salaries have to match up since Boston is under the cap? Because obviously the Hawks don't want Bass for $12 mill a year.

But if the deal is Bass and our draft picks for Smith i do it in a heart beat and i think Atlanta has to strongly consider it. They may want Bradley thrown in that deal as well which could be a deal breaker.

We have to be within 150% of Smith's salary so we need to send out around 9M in salary. We could throw in Johnson, but his salary number is 1.1. So Bass would have to sign a front loaded contract for close to 8 next season.

Hawks want to get rid of 13mil salary that smith has plus we know how much money J.Johnson makes so why would they want Gasol who makes 19mil ? Doesn't make sense to me because gasol, johnson, horford will cost around 50mil. but with Bass plus picks plus JJJ Hawks will get cheaper players and 3 young prospects

Thanks for clearing that up. TP.

If it's something like Bass (Re-signed for $7 mil per) Plus our two draft picks (Salaries would probably equal 3 mil added up) then it could work out.

I think it's a win/win for both teams. ATL gets a more conventional PF to pair with Horford plus two draft picks in a deep draft. Boston gets Josh Smith who could be the key to beating the Heat.

I dont know why people are sour on OJ Mayo. Kids got 4 years NBA experience and he is only 24 years old. He hasn't been given a great role in Memphis but has still done a great job as a 6th man. His reduction in minutes has hurt him in figuring out his role and he has only shot 40 - 41% in 26 minutes over the past two years but has still averaged 12 points a game...

However, in his first two seasons he started all but one game, and played 38 minutes a game in year one as a rookie he averaged 18.5 a game with 4 rebounds shooting 44% and 38% from three, in year two he averaged 17.5 a game while shooting 46% and 38% from three. All while playing sufficient (not great) defense, but running well and hitting down shots and getting to the free throw line.

Putting a young experienced athlete alongside Rondo would benefit the team, and the celtics organization would greatly benefit Mayo. I think he would be a steal for us honestly. I would trade the 21st and either this years second or a future second for him.

Bass at 6 mill way better than Pau at 20.  Especially with Joe Johnson and Williams (let alone Horford and Teague) already on the books.

Sherrod...

Quote
BOSTON — The Boston Celtics came close to trading for Memphis' O.J. Mayo just before March's trading deadline, and it appears their interest remains just as strong now.

A league source said the C's continue to be enamored with the 6-foot-5 shooting guard, and are considering making another run at him.

The source said no deal is imminent, but it appears the Celtics are willing to offer up Brandon Bass via a sign and trade.

Bass, who opted out of his contract to become an unrestricted free agent this summer, would have to agree to such a deal.

While he indicated that his first preference is to return to Boston with a multi-year deal, he will be looking for a significant bump in salary from the $4.25 million he made this past season.

It was initially believed that Bass would be seeking a similar deal to former Celtic Glen Davis' four-year, $26 million contract.

However, if he were seeking a deal worth significantly more than that, the C's might want to take a pass on him and instead focus that money more on Jeff Green who is one of the team's top free agent targets.

While the trading away of Bass might seem a bit lopsided at first, consider this.

By moving him for Mayo, the C's address the need for a scoring guard who can compliment Rajon Rondo's playmaking and Avery Bradley's prowess as a defender.

In addition, it frees up the Celtics to focus on adding a big man with one of their first round picks.

Although C's president of basketball operations Danny Ainge said that he has not made any promises to draft any particular player, Royce White - rumored to have received a promise from Ainge - may be on the board and too attractive a player for the C's to pass on.

Gary Washburn: Source said #celtics are not offering a S&T for Brandon Bass in deals, in fact they are interested in re-signing him about 6 minutes ago

Unless Washburn was purposely fed that info just in case a deal doesn't go down. Damage control.

And pay Gasoline $19mm a year for the next few years? Not a no brainer.

I still don't want much to do with OJ Mayo, I'm still scared he'll get way too much money for what he does.

What is way too much money?  If we could get him for less than 4 years $22 million, I'd take him (that's my max).  I think he could have the potential to flourish playing off the ball from a distributor like Rondo and would also give us some much needed scoring off the bench.

Rondo/Dooling
Bradley/Mayo
Pierce/Green
Bass/Wilcox/Green
KG/Steimsma/Wilcox

I would offer Mayo the same annual amount as I would offer Ray.  Ray would bring veteran experience back, good chemistry, clutch shooting, and he knows the system.  OJ Mayo would not bring any of those, but brings youth, higher potential, and can create his own offense off the bench better than Ray.

With 9 bench press reps?   Where is the power?

Jeff Withey blocked the snot out of him.  I hope we don't get this kid.

He's regurgitating rumors picked up by reporters with real sources.

yep. a few days ago someone asked blakely that if sullinger falls to the celtics at #21, would the celtics pass on him? blakely said something like, "i think they'll pass on him."

the dudes credibility with me is pretty low.
