Sam Amick:

• Meanwhile on the East coast, the Celtics initially were quiet, but said to be one of the more aggressive teams Wednesday night, placing phone calls and going through “the feeling out process,” according to a source. Point guard Rajon Rondo, once considered a trade chip, appears to be the only untouchable. With Kevin Garnett possibly retiring and Ray Allen probably leaving in free agency, Paul Pierce is the player about whom everyone is asking.

• Grizzlies shooting guard O.J. Mayo could be on both the Lakers’ and Celtics’ radar as well, said a source. Mayo is a restricted free agent, meaning the Grizzlies would have three days to match any offer.

I Wonder if the blazers would be interested in something like Bradley JJJ and moore and then the 21st and 22nd for 6 and 11? I know that a lot on our end but that could nab us perhaps Rivers and a big man. I'm hoping if any move it would be with bradley or the Pur-duo and not Pierce. Considering that looks like Rondo is untouchable.

Glad to hear we are making Rondo untouchable.  He deserves it, is a headcase who doesn't take rumors well, and we won't get equal value back for him.

Only way Pierce is even close to being moved is if KG doesn't come back.

So Bradley plus 21 and 22 for 6 and 11 (I will ignore you mentioned the purduo because have have little to no value).  I don't think thats enoough for both 6 and 11.  Perhaps enough for 6.

my take on this is that if they say rondo is untouchable then it means he is the piece they really want to move.

Ainge, trade Pierce for a young, budding star in a 3-team deal. There comes a point when Celtics fans have to accept reality and eradicate the chant of "bring the big three back one more time!" The Celtics got exposed this post-season as old, injury-prone, and inferior to the faster, more athletic teams. Rebuild and contend around Rondo while you still have viable trade chips and while Rondo is in his prime.

Well I'm glad Rondo's not on the block, I'd rather try to build around him as we move on from the current core.

Im all with that plan but what team is going to trade a "young budding star" for Pierce? He will be 35 next year with a large contract...

This. I know it's going to happen eventually but still not happy about them moving Pierce which would mean KG is probably retiring.

The answer is no one, even in a three team trade.

I know nothing of Sam's track record but when I read his opinion or what ever I said Huh?  I see no way they trade Pierce at all if KG comes back.  If KG doesn't come back, I think they get better value by trading during the season.  I don't know how to statisically validate this opinion but it seems like it would be easier to get some bidding going during the season.

As for Rondo, I think he is untouchable only unless someone makes a really good offer (which someone just might).  For Rondo I think the potential for getting value back is better right now than it would be during the season.

So yeah, I think just the opposite of what Sammy A said.
