Poll on best NBA player... Rondo is one of six options that includes the likes of Lebron James, Kobe Bryant, Kevin Durant, and Kevin Love.

Lets keep this guy :) oh and vote for him haha

  • We may as well put Tyrion in at center.
The thing about Rondo, which I love, is that he ALWAYS steps up his game come the post season. That's all that really matters. Who cares what stats you put up in the regular season if you can average triple doubles during the playoffs?

There is not a single player in the draft guaranteed to step up when it matters, and the list of players who step up during the playoffs is minimal. Rondo could possibly be on the top of the list - That is why he is so valuable.
I like Marcus Smart

I love Rondo and I was really proud of how he stepped up in the playoffs this year.

But he has never averaged a triple double in the playoffs, he hasn't even averaged a triple double for a playoff series.

16.9, 9.7 & 9.8 may not be averaging a trible double technically, but that's splitting hairs.
2025 Draft: Chicago Bulls

PG: Chauncey Billups/Deron Williams
SG: Kobe Bryant/Eric Gordon
SF: Jimmy Butler/Danny Granger/Danilo Gallinari
PF: Al Horford/Zion Williamson
C: Yao Ming/Pau Gasol/Tyson Chandler

Hey you want to give arbitrary weight to hitting triple digits to box score stats you don't get to cheat and round up.

Edit:
*which series is that?*

If Rondo didn't go for so many triple doubles I'd never have known that so many people here are philisophically opposed to milestones in sports.

And it wasn't a series that he did that in, it's an entire postseason.

If it wasn't for you I wouldn't have to preface every post where I'm remotely critical of Rondo with statements like my first post in this thread had.

I've always been against assigning milestones more weight than they actually bare in reality. Why speak breathlessly about his "almost" triple double post season when his post season this past year was better by a wide margin, only 17.3 6.7 11.3?

I'm not sure what the preface would have to do with me. If I saw three posts that said "Rondo's a bad defender", "I love Rondo, but he's a bad defender" and "I can't stand Rondo, he's a bad defender" I'd have the same or very close to the same responses to all of them.

I've always been against assigning milestones more weight than they actually bare in reality. Why speak breathlessly about his "almost" triple double post season when his post season this past year was better by a wide margin, only 17.3 6.7 11.3?

On one hand, I agree. On the other hand, there's no real non-arbitrary way of showing the versatilty of certain players.

It was actually the '09 playoffs in toto.

Pretty cool. I don't see anybody other than Lebron winning this award, though. Lame.
PHX Suns: Russell Westbrook, Chris Bosh, Tristan Thompson, Trevor Ariza, Tony Allen, Trey Lyles, Corey Brewer, Larry Nance Jr., Trey Burke, Troy Daniels, Joffrey Lauvergne, Justin Holiday, Mike Muscala, 14.6

Congratulations, Rajon.  To be selected by the ESPYs as a top six NBA player is a well deserved honor.

Where's Chris Paul?
