I'm not entirely familiar with the financial aspect of this proposition, but I feel it could definitely work. First thing's first, here is the trade idea for draft day: Hornets sign and trade Gordon to a deal that matches whatever the Celtics offer him and in return the Celtics dish both of their first round draft picks, Avery Bradley, and possibly an additional player. Even though this trade would deprive us of much of our future in the short term, Eric Gordon is an NBA all star and I really don't think there would be a better back court in the NBA than Rondo and Gordon playing 40+ minutes a game, yes that includes Harden and Westbrook in OKC. New Orleans was not far behind Charlotte for most of the season until Charlotte began to blatantly tank it and Eric Gordon came back from injury. When he returned he was averaging 20 a game and the Hornets were playing .500 ball, and that roster was a bunch of scrubs besides Gordon. Obviously the Hornets are building for the future and Gordon fits into that idea, but the Celtics have enough trade chips to make a deal between the two teams that would be tempting enough for the Hornets to bite at. The addition of Avery Bradley along with the arrival of Anthony Davis anchors a young defense for years to come that will make it a nightmare for any opposing team. Additionally, sending the two draft picks to New Orleans to accompany their 10th overall pick could easily allow them to trade up in the draft, maybe even as far as #2 considering the Bobcats are interested in trading their pick. Furthermore, even though I am a biased Celtics fan, I really think this trade is reasonably even and the fact that we would be making it with a developing team in the opposing conference is all the more advantageous for both teams. You can always be patient and wait longer to sign an all star or develop one you acquire in the draft, but I think every GM in the league is convinced Eric Gordon is for real. If it is possible to acquire him in any way possible besides dishing Rondo, I think you have to go for him. He's the best young guard on the free agent market for the next two off-seasons combined. I'm not an experienced GM, but I do know Danny Ainge is aggressive and always wants to win immediately. Eric Gordon is the answer to his and the Celtics problems.
