draft a backup pg ?

there have been lots of threads concerning our picks and what we should target. the majority of it has been geared towards big man, pfs and tweeners.

how do people feel about drafting a backup pg?

its clear rondo is our pg taking us into the next era for the celtics and he will play the bulk of the minutes (especially in the playoffs). but considering how many minutes he played (i feel like he played 48 min a game during this past postseason) and roughly near 40 during the regular season, its clear he needs some help.

dooling was trash for us in the reg season and its clear bradley is better suited to be a 2 guard. people are very high on moore. honestly, im not sure what to make of the guy because he really didnt get much time to play. but the assumption is given how terrible our backup pgs were and he still wasnt getting time on the floor, he must not have been that good.

so im curious what peoples thoughts are on drafting a pg. are there any viable options at our picks? are there any solid prospects from free agency?

Draft Kendall Marshall, start him at SG, like Clippers were going to start Chauncey.

Maybe in the 2nd round. 



There are always cheap backup PGs floating around in the offseason that can play the 10-12 minutes. 



Unless the PG is clearly better then the other options, I don't see the move to grab one.

I had a dream last night that the Celtics selected Marquis Teague - in which I was screaming to my dad "We have a backup PG now!!!!! Rondo doesn't have to play all 48!!"

FWIW, celtics.com has a story saying PG is their only 'low priority' position in the draft:

D'Amico classifies their need at 2 and 3 as 'medium' and at 4 and 5 at 'high', with the qualification that he expects if KG returns it will be at the 4 and so their need won't be so high there.

Maybe in the 2nd round. 

I can't see us using what is a halfway decent 2nd round pick to draft a backup PG after we did the same thing last year, especially if they want to bring Dooling back.  I don't think we'd get anyone appreciably better than E'twaun Moore anyways.

I'd rather take a flier on some giant, a foreign player, or an undersized forward.

Yeah backup PG is our biggest need it will help us get boards we badly need....

Avery can be our backup PG, just to keep Rondo fresh. We don't lose on defense that way and we get to play either Ray and/or whoever backup 2 we get some more minutes. So I don't think we need to draft a backup PG.

Scott Machado in the second round.  Use the first round picks on bigs and wings. 

I get that Marshall is garnering some interest among Celtic fans.  I like him, and I like his game, but I really don't see him fitting here.  For his sake and for our sake, I'd like to see Kendall Marshall get drafted by someone who can give him more playing time.

I think Ainge will invest in a backup pg in the draft. Tony Wroten comes to mind.

I don't feel were drafting a PG unless someone falls. More likely scenario would be bringing back Dooling, or signing someone like Jamal Crawford.

I'm OK with both bringing back Dooling, and letting AB bring the ball upcourt against certain opponents.  Jamal Crawford...  sure, at the right price.  Pierce can help out a little bit in that regard (when he's on the floor with AB), as well.  If there's someone interesting in the second round, maybe...  but I'll be disappointed if they draft a PG in the 1st.

Priorities have to be a big guy and/or a scoring wing - someone who can take some of the pressure off Pierce, and maybe develop over time.  I don't see Jeff Green as the long-term solution there.

Only reason to draft a PG is if he is the best player available in the 2nd round. A 3 guard rotation with RR, AB and a 6'5 + SG will work just fine with AB playing backup point.
