Sounds like the owner wants him out... unless there is a bunch of stuff going on behind the scenes that we dont know about, I can't see why.

Larry Bird has been able to keep that Pacers team relevant first by being a great headdcoach then an awesome president. Maybe the C's front office has a spot for him!

Danny and Larry aren't great pals, are they?

I don't believe they are.  Certainly not as tight as Kevin and Danny.

Larry should show his appreciation of Indy ownership by slipping us Hibbert for pennies on the dollar  :)

On "Mike and Mike" they said something about health problems. I really hope that parts not true.

I'd like him to come back to the Celtics in some kind of consultant role.  Or whatever role he wants, really.  Great guy to have in an organization.

Donny Walsh is coming back apparently.

So Bird won that power struggle only to lose it a few years later, weird...

So its not health related, and Larry Bird is leaving the year following him winning executive of the year, and Donny Walsh is coming back?

Yeah makes all kinds of sense.

It could be health related, who knows.

But it doesn't sound like it.

Haven't we learned anything about Larry after all these years?  He lives life on his own terms.  He fulfills contracts and then makes decisions on things.  This doesn't shock me in the least.  I don't think Larry really enjoys "today's NBA" and views the league today as more about entertainment than basketball.  He doesn't need the money nor does he want the fame.  If anything, this move makes all the sense in the world as it fits into Larry's personality of his life decisions...

agreed
he has always been on a handshake deal anyways, i think he is happy with getting the pacers back to relevance and cleaning up the team from when it was thuggish
I'd like nothing more than to see him hanging out in boston with the rest of the greats but i can also see him hanging on the farm and not watching much basketball
