KG wants to go back to PF and I actually think its a good idea.  Center for 82 games plus the playoffs is a lot of wear and tear on his 36 year old frame.  He'll still play center in stretches (especially in a small ball scenario) but for the season we need someone to start at center and we are not locating them in the draft (No Fab Melo please).

Here are some names:

JJ Hickson (can he play center?)
Jason Thompson ( good option if we don't have to overpay)
Maresse Speights
Roy Hibbert (unlikely but hey)
Ian Mahinmi
Marcus Camby (still good)
Hasheem Thabeet (don't really want him)
Greg Oden (worth the risk?)
Semih Erden (old friend)
Nazr Mohammed
Lopez brothers (like Robin more than Brook but who doesn't)

There are others but those are the ones that jumped out to me thoughts??

For the same money? I'll take Brook thanks. At least he scores while not rebounding and knows how to get a haircut.

Scratch Free Agent and add "available". Here is my list (and reasons):

Asik (doesn't have to shoot to be effective)
Steimsma (cheap, Garnett likes him)
Hawes (solid scoring, good size, might come cheap)
Jefferson (post scoring and rebounding, young-ish)
Okafor (take his contact for pick #32 + future 1st?)

My preference is Asik because I like his size and post defense but I will say guys like Jefferson allure me with post scoring. I think if Garnett resigns we just need big bodies who can move their feet.

Draft (assume Drummond, Leonard and Zeller are gone and we didn't trade up):

Moultrie
Nicholson

I personally don't like rookie centers. Not enough bulk or practice in an NBA system. Asik has my vote.

I think we really have two needs if DA decides to just make adjustments to the roster instead of a major overhaul.

1) we need an athletic big f/c that can play d well within Doc's system and rebound, hopefully give a bit of scoring too.  someone that can play when KG is on the bench and not let our D drop off the face of the earth. (we had major issues on D with KG on the bench in the playoffs)

2) at least ONE new player off the bench that is a scorer that can help the team through the bad droughts on offense.  either a SG or SF would be good.  maybe Jeff Green is that guy, but I am still not convinced

Dunno.  I'd still like to take a chance on Oden, though.  Lol.  That would still excite me if it happened.  Plus, I still feel bad for the few Boston fans who created custom Oden Celtic jerseys before the 2007 lotto.  Custom jerseys can be spendy to buy...  I want to see them get some use out of them.  :-P

A less athletic big who can play d well within Doc's system is probably better than one who is more athletic and can rebound better but can't handle the defensive responsibilities.

I could see Garnett being so offended that he retires if Ainge tries to surround him with bigs who play defense like Al Jefferson.

Hmmm ... Asik and Sullinger. With Garnett.

That would be a nice foundation to the big man rotation.

Pass on Oden unless a one year cheap contract..Heck get Oden AND Camby on a one year contract and that be great...Rotate both players so they dont play alot of minutes
C/PF-Horford, Baynes, Noel, Theis, Morris,
SF/SG- Tatum, Brown, Hayward, Smart, Semi, Clark
PG- Irving, Rozier, Larkin

Oden said he wanted to play for Miami, you know because all the BFF's play in Miami. And you know they are getting rid of Miller this year to do so. Very slim chance he'd come here.

While I love the Idea of Marcus Camby, I am afraid he might not be healthy enough to play significant minutes. He would need to be supplemented by one or two decent backups. Maybe Steimsma and Wilcox if healthy. Problem is, if he goes down then we are back in the KG at center boat come playoff time.

I dont think KG would mind so much if we had decent backups that werent rookies or 3rd tier players. In the case of Bass last year, he was just plain undersized and not able to switch for help defensively.

I think some of the younger guys like Haddadi or even Thabeet might be ok if motivated properly. Aaron Gray always gives effort but he is the same as Steimsma with low mobility.

Sorry, but the whole list except for Hibbert is mostly backups. I just dont see Doc playing a center by committee rotation for very long.

Wonder how KG would feel about Dalembert? Okafor? they would probably be too expensive and not worthwhile.

Move up in the 2nd and draft Bernard James. Tough defender, 6 years military service should fit right in with KG barking at him like R. Lee Ermey.

Projected to go to the Bucks with the pick we would've received from the Dooling trade, just buy it off them?
Stay classy, San Diego. Hello, Baxter? Baxter, is that you? Bark twice if you're in Milwaukee. Is this Wilt Chamberlain? Have the decency to say something.

Well I wouldn't be counting on Sullinger for next year...Here's what Steve Kyler from Hoops World had to say in hi schat today...

"Steve Kyler
From what I have been told he’ll miss a big chunk of the year to corrective back surgery…
