3rd team will have to be involved somewhere
We sign and trade Ray and our picks to 3rd team
Bass sign and trade to ATL
ATL gets 3rd team picks and player
We get Josh Smith and Pick 23(John Jenkins)

Rondo Dooling
Bradley Jenkins
Pierce Green
Jsmith JJJ
Kg Steamer
Can't stop, Rondo!

Exactly what I was talking about with my brother yesterday!

We sign and trade Ray Allen to a 3rd team:
either Clippers or Chicago or Memphis which are all said to be interested in Ray.

so Clippers would send Mo Williams + C Butler or R Foye to ATL
or Chicago would send L Deng to ATL
or Memphis would send R Gay to ATL
(They will do sign and trade when needed)

And Boston will receive J Smith from ATL.

We could send Ray and JJJ and our 2nd round pick to either ATL or the chosen 3rd team to sweeten the deal where needed...

With such a deal,
and with home town discount from returning players we could have the following team :

Rondo - Dooling - Moore
Bradley - Free agent 1 - Pietrus
Pierce - Green - J Taylor
J Smith - Bass - Nicholson
KG - Free agent 2 - Stiemsma

Free Agent 1:
Any of : N Young, D Green, J Crawford, OJ Mayo, CJ Miles

Free Agent 2:
Any of : C Kaman, J McGee, I Manhimi, C Wilcox, JJ Hickson

Its tough because I do see Josh becoming a Celtic but does KG really want to play center again? Although if we do get a decent backup then we can rest him through the Season and then let him loose in the playoffs. That would be a great defensive team!

Rondo
Bradley
Pierce
Smith
KG

with people like Perhaps Green, dooling, and some draft picks wow thats a good team.

i would love to use green and a pick to pick up smith. dont know if that would get it done however

Would you do it for both their picks and maybe Marvin Williams's bad contract?

Wait what is the package you are proposing?

If it's a high pick they want...would 3 firsts do it? Theirs and ours.

Bass and Ray are both clear upgrades over Marvin Williams. Although I imagine Bass would do it (Ray's stock is severely undervalued by celticsblog imo. The way he played in the final stretch of the playoffs shows that he's still good to me).

Anyway...

S&T Green, Bass (or Ray), 2 Firsts for Marvin Williams and Josh Smith.

Hawks get completely rebuilt (they leverage 3 picks into a higher one). We get Josh Smith.

agreed with this scenario, we wouldn't need to trade up picks first since the hawks could just package 3 firsts into a lottery pick. I would definitely s & t bass, ray, and two firsts for smith in a heartbeat thats a great trade for us. I'd like to keep Green personally for depth, hopefully he wouldn't be needed in the trade. Even Marvin Williams could help us with depth for a year. I mean lets be real guys its not like doc would play the rookies anyway lets grab Rondo's friend in his prime so the two of them can dominate together and just draft a guy with some potential in the 2nd round and groom him or something

  • Let's Go Celtics!
I take this rumor with a grain of salt because it just doesn't seem plausible. With Josh only having 1 year remaining on his deal, what lottery team would move a high draft pick for a one year rental of Josh and Marvin's overpaid contract? That'd be a dream trade for Atlanta and a terrible trade for whatever team would give up a lottery pick.

The only team I could see playing ball would've been NO with #10 pick if they could've sent back Okafor, even then with them getting Anthony Davis where would Josh have played? What will likely happen is Atlanta will trade at least Josh, but for a package less then they'd like.

If the C's get involved, the best thing that can happen is for Josh to pull a Melo and say he'd only sign longterm with us. Given his relationship with Rondo, that's not out of the question.
2021 Houston Rockets
PG: Kyrie Irving/Patty Mills/Jalen Brunson
SG: OG Anunoby/Norman Powell/Matisse Thybulle
SF: Gordon Hayward/Demar Derozan
PF: Giannis Antetokounmpo/Robert Covington
C: Kristaps Porzingis/Bobby Portis/James Wiseman

I think Toronto would bite on this. Colangelo is rumored to be shopping the pick pretty hard.

Because they still have a ton of unused cap space, the Raptors could send the #8 and a minor contract like James Johnson to Atlanta for Smith.

That move would seriously jeopardize the Raptors' ability to lure Steve Nash to sign with them this offseason, however.

Still, it'd be a huge talent upgrade for the Raps.

[Edit: was thinking of this deal if Smith could play SF. If he's strictly a PF, then Raps pass on this. They have plenty of bigs as it is, including the much touted Jonas Valanciunas joining them this coming season.]

The Hawks are said to be one team placing calls to improve their draft position. They currently own the No. 23 pick. One GM said the Hawks floated the names of both Josh Smith and Marvin Williams as potential trade chips.

would love if the c's could somehow end up landing smith . I would be willing to give up Bradley and a pick most likely , don't think it would get you smith though unfortunately

Can we include Jeff Green or Bandon Bass (S+t)along with Bradley and a pick or 2 ? or can you only s+t players individually ?

I would use Green, but no Bradley

man, having Rondo, Bradley, Smith and KG...thats a super defensive team

matter fact, I'd package Green, Bass and a pick for Smith (if that works? someone confirm)

Just so everyone is aware, Jeff Green can not be used in a sign-and-trade, as he was not on our roster this season.

Per Larry Coon:

Quote
88. Can a free agent be signed and immediately traded?

There is a rule that allows teams to re-sign their own free agents for trading purposes, called the sign-and-trade rule. Under this rule the player is re-signed and immediately traded to another team. This is done by adding a clause to the contract stipulating that the contract is null and void if the trade to the specific team is not completed within 48 hours. To qualify for a sign-and-trade, all of the following must be true:
•The player must finish the preceding season with that team (deals are no longer allowed that sign-and-trade players who are out of the league, such as the sign-and-trade that sent Keith Van Horn from Dallas to New Jersey as part of the Jason Kidd trade in 2008).

Edit:  I also should mention, this rule is why I was rather disappointed the C's didn't sign Green to a minimum contract at the end of the season instead of using our last roster spot on Sean Williams.  His Bird-Rights status would have been unchanged, and we would have been allowed to use him in sign-and-trades as well as having a substantially lower cap hold for him.

I thought Green's was a special case with extenuating circumstances that allowed the team to keep his Bird Rights, thus making a sign-and-trade possible?

We still have his Bird-Rights.  Just can't sign-and-trade him.

I really think the league didn't quite think this rule through all the way.  They should have allowed a provision for such circumstances.

I think the key language is "out of the league." Green is certainly not out of the league, although he did spend last year without a team. Van Horn was unofficially retired when he was traded.

I bet the Celtics could make a case to the league office to allow for a sign-and-trade.

Maybe...

But the fact remains, Green was not on a NBA roster this season.  How could he be viewed as anything other than "out of the league"?

I think I'll start a topic specifically for this.  It's kinda off-topic anyways.  Just wanted to point it out.
