From Jessica Camerato article on JJJ

Quote
He also continues to work on adding on muscle. Johnson faced skepticism upon entering the league because of his stature. He estimates he has gained 10 pounds since being drafted and currently weighs around 225 pounds. Johnson would like to reach 230 pounds while maintaining his running and jumping explosiveness.

“I'm athletic, I can run, jump, block shots, knock down shots, and bring some athleticism to our team and energy,“ he said. “Obviously this summer I'm going to really try to work on getting stronger and things like that, but I definitely feel like next year, I'll be able to contribute more to the team.”

The article also mentions how JJJ learned all year from the vets and had many conversations on plane rides with KG

If this is true that he could possibly be around 230 LBS by the beginning of next year I think he could easily fill the Bass role( which should be backup PF). He has a very good jump shot (Just like Bass)that he can get off over anyone. He also has a pretty nice turn around J (I'm sure KG can teach him how to do those little jukes so he can get it off against anyone ). Can run with Rondo and from the little time he saw last year, he looked to be like a pretty good offensive rebounder too!

Hope he gets a shot to play some of the backup PF mins next year, we are going to need him .

5 more?  Lofty goal.  I think it would be better to shoot for more than that.  I don't see him ever being a 3.

yea I'm with you guys, KG weighs 253 and he has a hard time with bangers sometimes. I would like to see JJJ at 235 at least

sounds good to me. I don't want him to gain too much weight too quickly. It will come.
Celtics fan for life.

God I love high character players. Well played Danny. I think he'll surprise people, like I've been saying.

His weight doesn't concern me nearly as much as how lost he appeared every time he got minutes.

Coined the CelticsBlog term, "Euromistake."

Kg is a little taller and was probably around 235-245 when he was JJJ's age in the league. But yes I'd like to see him add another 10 at least.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

JaJuan should only add as much weight as his frame allows.  If 5 more pound can maximize his abilities then that's what he should add.  Kevin Durant won't ever be Lebron James physically, but he still gets the job done.  Also, it's insanely difficult to add good weight, especially if you are not built for it.

Hopefully like Bradley with an offseason program he will seize the opportunities he is given. But given that Bradley's leap in play is the exception I'm concerned.

Or the complete lack of any move to get off a shot other than a jab step...

I agree.

And if he's still lost after two summer leagues, a full training camp and a full preseason schedule, then he deserves whatever benching Doc gives him.

I don't think we should hold our breath for JJJ to become a go to isolation player.  He'll likely always depends on others to get him shots in the half court.  That said, he has a nice shot so he won't be an albatross on offense.  And he has energy and is springy so he has potential as an offensive rebounder and finisher.

With a little more confidence and a little more weight, I think he could replace Bass (off the becnh) if needed.  And let's not forget that he'll get a training camp and more practice time next year.

JJJ's immediate future in the league is running the fast break, playing around the rim, grabbing boards, blocking shots, and in the half court game extending defenses by hitting 18-footers at the 4.

He is not going to be a go-to option, he is not going to get plays called for him.  He will get 15 min a game off the bench.  We need 7 pts, 3 rebs, .5 blks a game from him, or something like that.  A few fast break dunks to get the crowd amped.  That's all.  I think he is more than capable of that for us.
