If KG stays, we're looking at about 2 years of contention. If he doesn't, we'll most likely be "blowing it up" (a phrase some here seem to be falling in love with). It also seems that keeping KG and trading Paul Pierce is not a very viable option since apparently KG will leave if drastic changes are made.

If we trade down one (or even both) of our picks, is there enough NBA readiness to contribute immediately (if KG stays) or will they have enough upside to be worth trading for (if KG goes)?

From the players that are projected to be taken late first/early second after us, I've heard of: Fab Melo, Royce White, Festus Elezi, Tony Wroten, Andrew Nicholson and Will Barton (different for different mocks).

No it is not a stupid idea.  If the draft is as deep as people seem to think it is and Danny has a list of 3 to 5 players he is targeting at 20 and 21, it is very possible that all of these targets slip to us at those slots.  You can then trade, say, the #20 pick and move down to the 26-28 range and still have a very good shot of getting the players you originally wanted anyways.  It is very possible to pry a future first away from a team in this range because most of the teams are good, with a strong foundation so they don't see a future first being valuable (i.e. in the lottery.)

That's getting 2 1st rounders for the price of one.

agree -- it's not stupid provided Danny gets the player(s) he's looking for at the lower slots AND he's able to pick up decent future assets.  He did it last year in flipping Brooks for JJJ and what will end up being in all likelihood a high second round pick and we all know Danny does very well in finding players in the second round.

If we could trade Moe Harkless, or somebody else the Nets need to attract fans to their new arena, and get the Nets 2013 first rounder without any protections, that could be a great coup.

I think the Nets are desperate to have a decent roster for their inaugural season, regardless of the long-term consequences. You never get a second chance to make a first impression, they are probably thinking.

Trading for Deron Williams was the worst move in their history, compounded by trading their top 10 pick this year for Gerald Wallace.

If they hadn't made those moves, they might be looking at a pretty promising roster for next year.

The Celtics already have the Nets 2nd rounder next year, which is likely to be a borderline first round pick.

I love the idea as well. I just danny and our scouting enough to let them handle their picks however they choose. If we can get the same guy we want at 26 then we could at 20 why not make a deal to try and get another future pick. No brainer in my eyes.
