I think Asik would be a great 5 at around $5-6 MM. Would people prefer him to Bass?

I think he is a MUCH better option for Bass, and I would love him in that price range.  My fear though, is that it will take closer to 8-9 million per year to pry him away.
I would pay him $8-10 if it was a one year deal that allowed us to be big players next year.

Can't sign RFA to one year deals.

Two year deal with an option for a third? Or does it need to be three full years? Would we front load the deal to convince Chicago not to match? That would probably prevent us from bringing in anyone else for anything besides the room option. Then we would use our bird rights to bring everyone else back. Hopefully with Green, and Bass on one year deals.

I think the way the C's get Asik is through a sign and trade for Ray Allen.  I think they both will be getting similar ranged contracts, and each of them fill a need for the team trading for them.

The question will be whether Ray will want to go to Chicago with Rose being a questionmark to return next year...but he may consider it, if they will pay him, and give him the starting job.  And Thibs can probably sell him pretty well.

What I would do is try to sign and trade Ray to Chicago, with Asik coming back on say, a 3 year/ $18 million deal.

Asik would be great at a manageable deal 5-6 million a year.  But I do worry someone will get silly with him and offer him something ridiculous.

Hopefully that someone isn't us.  Overspending on non-superstars is a death sentence in this league.

I'm gonna take a guess and say those are guys that fall under the "Gilbert Arenas rule."  Free agents with less than 2 years experience?

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Count me in with the Camby camp.

I know he's not a good fit with Rondo, but talk about a guy who, in limited minutes, could provide exactly what this team lacks...

He made $9.3 million last year, a number that will come down.

5th in offensive-reb %, 2nd in D-reb %, 1st in total-reb %, 9th in block %, and 10th in defensive rating.  His synergy numbers look nice as well.

Again, not a terrific fit style-wise, but in ~20mpg he's basically a better rebounding greg steimsma who won't miss as many defensive rotations.  If we can get him on a good deal i'm sold.

You're not biased at all in favor UMASS' finest? ;)

I'm very much on board with Camby - a great upgrade on Stiemsma.  A 1-year $6.5 mil deal might be enough to lure him back to New England.

I'm alos intrigued by the other veteran center in Houston - Sam Dalembert.  Houston has been ambivalent about guaranteeing his 2nd year (a $6.6 mil deal with $1.5 guaranteed).

A comparable rebounder and shotblocker, a better defender (IMO) and a more dangerous paint finisher (if a more error prone offensive player in general, and less of a dinosaur.

My summer wishlist involves Kirlenko, Camby, and Billups. I bet we can get Camby and Billups on cheap contracts, Kirelnko wont be demanding something high.

rondo/ billups
Bradley/Petey
Pierce/Kirelnko
KG / Bass
Camby/ Wilcox

Oldish starters but a nice balance of youth sprinkled throughout. Use Green in some sort of sign and trade to maybe upgrade at the center spot? or get an athletic big man to run the floor.

Why wouldn't Chicago match any 5M or thereabouts offer?

I worry about wasting time with restricted FAs who are only likely to sign the top $$ offer, and who are likely to have any reasonable offer matched.   Time is of the essence at the beginning of the FA frenzy.

Question:  What options would the C's have for offering #21 or #22 in exchange for a team NOT matching an offer sheet for a RFA?
