The Boston Celtics have interest in restricted free agent Sonny Weems, Hoopsworld's Alex Kennedy reported on Thursday night.

Kennedy reports that the Detroit Pistons, Cleveland Cavaliers and Los Angeles Clippers are also intrigued by the 25-year old high-flyer.

Weems played in Lithuania this past season largely because of the NBA lockout, but was forced to leave his team after suffering a bad ankle sprain which needed more treatment than he could find in Lithuania. During his last NBA season in 2010-11 with the Toronto Raptors, the 6-foot-6 wing averaged 9.2 points and 2.6 rebounds while starting 28 of his 59 games played.

The Celtics face an uncertain summer as they enter the offseason with just four players under contract for the 2012-13 season. The one certainty seems to be that the transition into becoming Rajon Rondo's team will continue. Weems would fit the mold of athletic players equipped to run with Boston's star point guard.

I wouldn't mind Weems off the bench , but still want a better backup SG. Weems could definitely get out and run with Rondo though.

in case anyone wishes to know more about weems...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sonny_Weems

last season he played in toronto. in 59 games he averaged 23.9 minutes and 9.2 points.

other than this, i know nothing about him. not sure he would be better than moore, but maybe more useful than daniels.

Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I like Weems as a 12th man, a Von Wafer type. Only thing is that he is horrid from beyond the ark.

Not a bad flyer for a vet minimum contract.  Basically the same as Von Wafer.

this.

he's a better defender than Wafer but not as good a scorer.

Could he play "D" like Tony Allen? If he does, then sign him. He would certainly be more athletic than Quis, but Quis has probably higher basketball IQ.

If the Cs move on from Ray Allen,  they're going to need some size with their third wing, after Bradley and Pierce.  Weeks is extremely athletic with good size.  He could certainly use a structured system like Boston's.  I like him for cheap money, like 3/$9m.  I think Toronto matches that, however.

If the Cs want to go all in on a knucklehead, go for JR Smith.  He's as athletic as Weems, with crazy range, but should be pricier.  The Knicks would certainly entertain a S and T with Ray Allen going to the Big Apple.

The best part about that story is that an ankle sprain is more than the Lithuanian medical system can handle.

Noah couldn't hit the broad side of an ark.
