Gents.  Sorry I haven't been around much to keep the lists up to date etc...Busier on my days off than my days on.

I don't want to make a big deal out of the Celtics team pick...but in the name of continuity we should keep it to an individual (duos were allowed because the first one snuck by as a joke).

I had always considered a "team" a sum of individuals so that's how I pick my guys.  Hadn't envisioned whole teams (or songs, or cars etc...) but I guess we're bound to run up against different interpretations in something as abstract as this.

I've got to hit the hay.  I'll try to catch up tomorrow.
Not a big deal at all ... I agree with the reasoning and I'm completely fine with changing my pick.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
As far as teams re: individuals re: cars and songs, here is my own twisted little interpretation.

The Ultimate Draft was originally invented as a valve release, and at its heart, it's satire and parody, playfully mocking the competitive and ruthless CB Draft. A place where you can argue whether Abraham Lincoln or Hemingway is tougher. A place where you could argue that BA was funnier than Martin Riggs.

If you step outside the box lines of selecting individuals, it should be in that spirit. For instance, wdleehi selected the fictional pair of hilarious male figure skaters from Blades Of Glory (which is of course KCattheStripe's favorite movie), because nobody takes that seriously.

But selecting the Dream Team or the miracle on ice kind of steps over the line, if slightly. It's a razors edge to have a draft on celticsblog that is centered around taking itself not too seriously. It's a kind of magic trick, one that if you endorse it too strongly or enforce it too openly violates the spirit of the thing by definition. Theoretically the Ultimate Draft should have the spirit of a drunken conversation among friends at a BBQ. You shouldn't need that to be moderated or policed.

Also just so I'm not misunderstood, I think Bahku, Slam, and Rondo all handled their responses and re-picks very well, like friends would, at a BBQ.

Thanks IP -- just living the words of the late (not so great) Rodney King -- can't we all just get along  :D

And as my friends will tell you, must drunken BBQ arguments I get into involves me complaining about not having heard "The Chain" by Fleetwood Mac yet

With my 6th round pick I will take the basest man in this draft, John bones jones, as my professional wrestler.  Not only is a collegiate national wrestling champion, but he is now one of the most prolific fighters/wrestlers the UFC has ever seen
