IMO the decision to draft Austin Rivers
was already made last year, when Doc signed
his 5-yr extension.

Interesting. I never looked at it this way before. I think we are two late in the first round however.

The closest comparisons I've heard of rivers is steph curry, oj mayo, and Jamal Crawford.

Also, I would take on okafor for the 10th pick but I doubt highly that's all we'd have to do N.O. probably wants something else in return. Okafor would absolutely help as an athletic defender/rebounder and as mentioned previously his expiring contract actually becomes an asset next year.

However not sure how it works financially as he is paid 14 mill a year

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
I was going to say how surprised I am that KG has stopped hunting and killing large mammals in the Canadian wilderness using while using only his wits, his knowledge, and an old, well-cared for bowie knife to bring down his prey (you know, the off-season) to talk about some kid, Doc's son or not, who likely won't even make it to the Celtics.

Makes way more sense the interview is dated. Austin Rivers slipping (and the Celtics drafting higher) was much more likely there.

And Avery Bradley had not shown himself to be a legit starting SG.

Ha, neither has Austin Rivers, and aside from Beal, there aren't many of the college prospects that look like long-term options who could be above-average pros.

I'm holding out hope that Danny stays put and drafts Fournier. At least he's got size for the 2, he plays hard, and he can create his own shot.

You can argue that you don't think he'll be able to sustain what we've seen from him, but clearly Bradley's shown himself to be a legit starting SG.

I could almost see that, provided he was wearing some kind of face paint and gave a primal scream when he killed his prey.

Rivers would play the off guard just like Bradley with rondo setting him up. He can handle the ball but he's not really a point guard, he played point out of nessacity for duke

What does legit mean?

He's just about the best defensive guard in the league and one of the fastest and most athletic.  Pretty legit to me.

All-Star?  Maybe not.  Doesn't mean he can't be pretty [dang] great and I wouldn't rule anything out after seeing how much heart he has.

Why on earth wouldn't you trade #21 for the 10th and Okafor. I'd do that trade in a heart beat. Okafor is a good defensive, rebounding big man and he only has this year and next on his contract. That means he plays with KG and Paul this year and he's very tradable as an expiring next year or comes off at the end of the season. - not a big deal. Meanwhile, we get the 10th pick? Done...
Yeah, I'd jump on that deal!

Okafor's contract is bad, but he is still an excellent center. His addition would let KG move back to PF and he would give us almost everything Perk gave us defensively plus some offense. Getting the 10th pick would also put Rivers into play for the C's.

Quote
Okafor / Aaron Gray
KG / Bass
Pierce / Green
Bradley / Pietrus
Rondo / player

Dominant

I'd resign Bass, Steamer and Wilcox rather than sign Gray or resign Pietrus.

Okafor, Steamer, Wilcox
KG, Bass, [#22 Nickleson], JJJ
Pierce, Green, [FA]
Bradley, [#10 Rivers]
Rondo, Dooling, Moore

If Rivers is there when we pick, I'm fine with picking him.  But I just don't see trading up to get him.  Who's to say that he's even better than Avery Bradley?  If he's not an upgrade over Bradley, he's not worth trading up for.

As for Doc's contract, I think it has little to do with Austin Rivers.  Instead, I think Doc realized that if he really wanted to "watch his kids" play sports, he should've stepped down years ago.  After Austin comes out this year, he'll only have one kid left in school and I believe he'll be a junior in high school next year.  Kinda late to watch the kids play now.

I think he was just saying bradley hasnt looked at as a legit starter yet when those conversations happened.

Did the Cs ever work out with Rivers?
[/quote]

He's been practicing with the C's the last few years from what I hear, so he's kinda already had his work out.

You know what would be funny is if Rivers had been tanking it last season so that he would be with in he C's reach. Wouldn't put it past DA to tell him to do so, knowing they wouldn't be a lottery, and hoping the Clips pick would have been a bit better.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was saying.  At the time of the interview, drafting Rivers sounded great b/c Ray was retiring and we didn't appear to have a clear SG going forward.

But now, I think Bradley has absolutely shown to be a legit starting SG and I think is our SG of the future.  I'm not too crazy about spending a draft pick on another SG at all really.
