Let Bass walk

Regardless of whether DA decides to go into full blow up mode or go for one last run, I hope he doesn't resign Bass.  While a good player, Bass is being highly overrated by many fans around here.  Don't get me wrong, I love what he did here.  He has a great attitude and would make a good off the bench guy. 

But Bass is the definition of a role player.  He can't do much without very good players around him to get him shots.  He is undersized and not a great rebounder.  He should not be getting big money or long years.  Resigning him would be a huge mistake that will come back to haunt the Celts in the near future.

I have always been a proponent of Green over Bass anyway.  Green is a better player and could cost much less.

If Bass wants to not opt out of his contract, I would be happy.



If he is looking for his long term pay day, I believe the Celtics will let him walk.

C's need more than two big men who can play, so I hope Bass takes his option and stays. I don't want to lock up a backup quality player long term.

I'm not sure about Green costing less--unless he agrees to short term and Bass holds out for long term--but I agree, Green's by far the more important player.  The C's shouldn't tie real money up in a backup 4.

I agree that Bass isn't a player we should build around or spend a lot of future cap space on.  However, I'd be very happy to offer him a one year deal (or two years, if both KG and Ray re-sign.)

I believe they convey this to him in a manner that convinces him to pick up his option. I don't see the Celtics giving a multiyear deal to anyone. In all likelihood KG and Pierce will retire after next year, we can't have salary tied up that hinders our ability to replace them with star players in 2013.

I'd be fine with paying him $4 million (which is his player option), but if Ainge tries to extend him for another year or two, hopefully it isn't for much more than that.  Bass shows flashes of talent, but can completely disappear at times.  He's a solid role player, but not a cornerstone guy.  

If he picks up the option then that's fine with me, but if another time is willing to give him, say 3 yrs and $24 million, they should move on.

Yeah it would be great if Bass takes that player option.  He got exposed in the playoffs as a starter, but off the bench he could be superb.

Speaking of $4million bench guys, what are people's thought on Carlos Delfino?  I haven't heard a lot of talk about him.  He made $3.5 last season and is a UFA this year.  He could slip thru the cracks a bit due to his rehab and a relatively deep SG free agent class.  He'd be a real nice player to spell Bradley.

Because he was only able to do what he did because of having great players around him AND because I am not sure he could sustain his play as a starter in the long run.  So basically, Bass would be fairly useless without good players around him.  Paying him long term (3 or 4 years) and good money (6-7 mil) now would inhibit our ability to place good players around. 

In terms of having Green AND Bass, it is simply the economics of the game now.  You can't pay everybody and in this case, I would sacrifice Bass because I think Green in the better player (and he could potentially cost less).

I'm impartial. When he catches the ball cleanly he does some good things.

Seriously was irritated with his hands all season, though.

  I don't think he has bad hands, I just don't think he's good at figuring out when a pass might come his way. He's never ready for the pass.

Probably a little bit of both, honestly, but of you're playing with Rondo and Garnett you should always have your hands ready. I know it was a short season, but 66 games is long enough to figure that out you'd think.
