I know nobody is really focused on our 2nd round pick but it doesn't hurt to think about and try to draft somebody that could be successful and prove to be a steal for his draft position. I think pf Yancy Gates would be a great pick if not taken, hes projected 2nd round or undrafted but he played for a good program (Cincinnati), his stats were pretty solid. He averaged 12 pts and 9 rpg a game. I don't think he'd be an all star by any means but could be a serviceable big man.

Link to his stats- http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/ncaa/men/players/82135/index.html

He definitely has maturity issues. He was one of the main guys behind the Xavier-Cincinnati brawl which was flat out ridiculous. However this late in the draft I think you take the chance. Doc would kick some sense into the kid, and kg especially would (if hes here).

Just a thought

He might be available as an undrafted free agent.

He's a possiblity with 51, but it will depend on who is drafted in the first. Talent at every position will drop to 51, including some wings that are more talented than Gates, who has weight problems at this point anyway.

agreed about talent dropping its much harder to figure out guys who would be available at this point. I was looking at his rebounding which at around 8 rpg is pretty solid. I wouldn't mind using a late 2nd round pick on a guy who could potentially help us improve in that area, that was my train of thought.

not against bringing in a big that rebounds but I'm hoping Danny will have better options in the first round to address that.  I think there's a greater likelihood that Danny takes a flyer on a wing or backup PG in the second round.

  • Rondo doesn't believe in easy buckets...
I'm wouldn't mind Quincy Acy with our second rounder. At 6'7 he's a undersized 4 or Tweener PF, but he has a crazy wingspan(7'2) is super athletic and rebounds. He could be a Bass/BBD type player with more speed and athleticism.

I don't know if there is room on the roster for 3 additional rookies.

What's the international crop looking like? Is there anyone worthy of a draft-and-stash in the late second round?

His stock has severely slipped after the Cinci-Xavier brawl.  There are a ton of red flags, but the talent is there.  He could be a legit NBA player, he just needs to get his head on straight.  I'd definitely pick him with the 51st pick, I think he could be a Reggie Evans type player.
do it

If KG comes back and the C's are going for another run, I agree with you. Carrying more than 3 projects on the roster would hurt the team's depth. Jajuan is 1 of those 3 already.

If KG retires/ moves on, the C's should probably load up on young guys and start gathering chips again.

I think, just as he's been the most critical player on the court for the last few years, KG will decide the direction of the draft and offseason for the Celtics.

I just wonder if Ainge will know what KG's plans are before draft night.

Ainge should draft with the thought that the team is losing KG. (They will lose him in 1-2 years anyway, and by then, this year's rookies will be ready to crack the rotation.

The C's need help at all positions but PG.

I'm hoping Robert Sacre falls to us in the 2nd round but Gates would also be a nice addition.

i expect our 2nd round pick will come from the list of guys who have been worker out out already.

I think that Tomas Satoransky looks interesting.

http://www.nbadraft.net/players/tomas-satoransky

He was in the first round in many of the early (Jan-March) mocks, but in the latest nbadraft.net and others he has slipped slowly to around us (#51). I think that this may be more a function of the stock of collegiate players rising during and after the NCAAs rather than his worth slipping so precipitously.

This is what draftnet has to say:

"Certainly one of the most complete guards of the young generation in Europe ... Born in 1991and appears ready for the 2012 NBA Draft after two years in Liga ACB (Spanish League) ... Tomas is a point guard with great size, excellent vision and ability to pass the ball ... Physically strong, allowing him to easily finish near the rim ... He is a good spot-up shooter, with range out to the three point line ... Shooting is not his first offensive option, but in the last Eurocup season he averaged 43% from the distance ... He's a smooth player with a quick first step and a strong ability to finish in traffic ... He also possesses standout athletic ability by European standards (he's a spectacular dunker!) ... He has a winning spirit, and always competes hard ... He is also a good defensive player because of his desire, athleticism and the versatility to defend multiple positions "

Worth a look, I think. Sounds like he has some "Celtics'" characteristics.

Good point. But, if you're Ainge, do you trade both picks to move up, or stand pat and go for depth?

Stand pat.
