Did anyone watch gasol in the playoffs this year? He was horrible
Pierce was still good despite his mcl strain...
In the playoffs Pierce shot something like26% on FG attempts past 10 feet(WEEI) and fouled out of 3 or 4 games I believe. Yes he hit a clutch shot in game 5 against Miami, but lets not pretend he was very good....

PP had a tough offseason but at least he wasn't called out for his intensity and effort by a teammate.

Are you sure he wouldn't have been called out, if he was on Kobe's team?

I'm fairly comfortable that he wouldn't.

If Bass was included in the trade and we were able to resign Jeff Green, this is a trade that would make both teams considerably better I think.

Too bad its the two most rivaled franchises in the sport.

I don't think the rivalry would have much bearing on the teams' willingness to trade.

The Lakers traded their 4th best player to the Mavs right after getting swept by them.  It's a business.

kobe calls out every player on his team when he looses, even when he chucks up 60 something shots for 30 something points and doesn't allow any else to touch the ball. he's a freaking cry baby :'(

You're right in the case where I'm sure we'd trade players like JJJ and Ebanks.  But this is Paul Pierce and Pau Gasol (mostly Pierce), not Lamar Odom.  And then on top of that, this is the most storied rivalry in the league.

If you're telling me that the sox and yankees would trade Pedro for Jeter if the trade made sense at the time b/c its just a business, I think you'd be wrong.  I think it's more than just a business in a few rare situations.  Paul Pierce being traded to LA, Kobe being traded to Boston, and Lebron being traded to Cleveland would be a few of those situations in the NBA.
