  • I'm a Paul Heyman guy.
This is my dream pickup. Kid can catch and shoot, make smart passes, defend 2 positions, rebound on both ends, and can finish at the rim... He also doesn't need the ball to score. That's a perfect fit with Rondo.

Plus he looks like Bizarro James Franco...

Watch the way he constantly works his way around.

I just realized he's just 25. I was under the impression that he's already 28-29. You know what, Im on board now. But as long as its not 8 mil or more i guess. I think 8 mil is overpaying already, but what he'll provide, rebounding, another outside threat is good for us. And he's young.

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Ilyasova is coming off a monster year, and if he played like that or even got a little better as a starter for a playoff team, he'd be an allstar. He's also a binky.

But if Bass opts in like he alledgedly will, I don't see the point. Illy will get a payday probably more than he is worth from someone, and with Bass's contract so affordable, and a bigger glaring need for a 3 and a better 5, I don't see how it's a good use of our money, and besides that, as much as I hate to say it, and I do, I don't think I'd wanna be the GM that hands him 4 yrs 8 million per. Very risky.

I like Ilyasova a lot.  However if KG re-signs for a number in the $10MM range and Bass doesn't opt out, then you couldn't bid high enough to get Ilyasova from the Bucks who are expected to match up to $10MM.  If Bass does opt out, you could bid more than $10 Million for Ilyasova, but you won't have much left to fill out the roster with rotation players vs scrubs, rookies and sophs. Playing around with the numbers it looks like a 7 man rotation, 2 sophs, 2-3 rookies, 3-4 scrubs (Stiemsma/Hollins/Daniels types)  Doesn't smell like a team as good as this year's.

You're still better off bringing back everybody including Ray, Green, Dooling, Pietrus, Bass, and Wilcox to add to the 2 sophs and 2 first rounders.  That option depends on KG of course, and if KG doesn't come back, it doesn't make sense to sign Ilyasova anyhow as we would need to rebuild (tank) instead.

About to be overpaid. Best to stay away.

Sometimes you have to overpay to lure a good player. We picked up scrubs like Pietrus, Daniels, Dooling and Pavlovic on the cheap and that didn't really get us anywhere
And the Magic picked up Rashard Lewis -- where did that get them?

  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
I'd like Ilyasova or Ryan Anderson.
They are both great players.
Moreso Ilyasova becuase of his interior presence.
He kind of reminds me of a superpower version of Udonis Haslem.
I remember when he had a monster game against the Nets and got 25 points and 25 rebounds in one game lol.
Throw him in the paint with KG and they would be a nightmare for opposing teams. He hits free throws, hits the 15 footer and hits threes. He has fantastic hands and if he can average that many points with a chucker like Jennings as his PG, imagine how many points he'd score under the rim with Rondo feeding him night in and out.
I'm not sure what people think he's worth when they say he'll be overpaid but he's a legit 6 foot 10 and shoots 45% from the three, 50% from the field and averages 13 and 8 over 27 mins a game- that's with Bogut in the paint beside him.
Anderson is a better scorer and can also shoot the three, but he will probably command a lot more money.
I'd be happy with either for 10 million a pop.
There will probably be teams willing to pitch 12-14 million for each of them though like the Nets so we'll have to see.

I want no part of Ryan Anderson. He played pretty much as well as he could ever play and still couldn't help make the Magic a formidable team. If you think he is going to be a near max player, then it makes no sense to go after him.

Ilyasova could slip under the radar a little bit. If there is a possibility that he could be a top 3 player on a contending team, then he maybe a good option. I am thinking like 6-7 million, though...

You are a hard man to please if you won't touch Anderson.
He will easily command 10 million per year and I think he was the NBA's most improved player this season.
Ilyasova is going for waaaaay more than 6-7 million too.
I'm just being realistic on what you'd have to spend to have a guy like this. These fringe All Stars are going for way too much because it's such a poor FA class. Is Anderson even an UFA this year?
But yeah, 10 million at least for each.
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

Considering that Danny was able to go into the season with KG at $20M and Ray and Green, I could see him splitting that $20M between Ilyasova and KG next year and having enough for filling in the edges--even if Bass stays.

I'm sure 2 good seasons and 1 NBA finals appearance was exactly what the Magic envisioned when they threw $100+ million at him.
