Low IQ player who's still coasting on supreme athletic ability. Will always go for the block, instead of sound defense. Can't hit a shot that's outside the paint.

Basically, another DeAndre Jordan.

So we're judging a player who is 24 and played in a horrible team? Cmon guys, I've always said this, you can't judge a player in a bad situation. To say that he is "stupid" and will never get better is just not an accurate statement. Judge a player when he's 34, not 24.

That being said, I wouldn't want him on the celtics simply because of his pricetag.

Didn't say he was stupid. Didn't say he'll never get better.

He's got a lot of growing up to do. If he ever figures it out, and gets his court sense and drive up to his athletic ability, he'll be a great player. The question is whether he can do that. I don't think he will.

East coast version of Lob City.

I don't want an East Coast version of Lob City.

Not the system.  But the ability to have a big that can run in the open floor, or roll to the basket on pick and rolls would be nice to have. Remember Rondo and KG had that connection back in '08?  Was nice right?

KG was also a tiny bit better than mediocre on defense, was a much better rebounder, and had a knocked down mid range shot instead of incapable of hitting outside 4 inches.

McGee is the dumbest player in the NBA. And this video (which someone previously posted in a Mcgee thread a while back) cracks me up everytime. Yes he is intriguing with his size and youth but he basketball IQ scares the crap out of me. Whenever i need a good laugh I watch this.

Would love McGee at 10 or 11 mil a year . The guy has so much potential

In a 7 game series vs LA Lakers (Bynum and Gasol) McGee averaged 9pts,10rpg,3blks,and 3 offensive rpg in only 25mpg

The guy needs to be mentored by a big man like KG or a real good big man coach(olojuwan, Ewing,Clifford Ray).

Tommy even mentioned in a game vs Washington this year that the reason McGee hasn't developed to his potential yet is because he has had no big man coach in Washington and he needs to go somewhere he can learn the center position from vets(Washington he was learning from Andray Blatche...)

They even took the lakers to 7 games and McGee's presence in the middle was a big part of it battling Bynum and Gasol

I disagree. He's already showing some promise of improvement during his short stint in Denver.

Boston has better veteran leadership and certainly a better motivator coach. I like that he will always go for the block, that way KG can focus on rebounding the basketball. I like the potential of him being an interior defender. Another DeAndre Jordan you say, well this team could use a DeAndre Jordan.

Only thing that's gonna make me say no is that price tag. Anything more than 10 million and C's should stay away.

When speaking about Kevin Garnett's ability to mentor teammates, note that KG was in Glen Davis' ear constantly.

We all know how Davis has turned out.

It's possible that without KG in his ear, Big Baby would have turned out more like Robert Traylor.

What's the track record of young athletic players on bad teams who are perceived as big time knuckleheads?  Can we look at similar players in the past and guess at how likely McGee is to improve?

McGee had some big games vs Bynum(the supposed 2nd best center in the NBA)

Game 3 - 16pts , 15rebs , 3 blks (28 mins)
game 5 - 21pts , 14rebs (33 mins)

He also had another 14 reb game and in three games he had 4,5 and 6 blocked shots

. He is inconsistant, but the talent is definitely there and he is still really young. I believe Rondo and KG would make him an all-star.

McGee is one of the few 16% TRB players who actually results in negative net impact rebounding for his team on the court.

Given what he's going to demand salarywise stay away.

In response to the reluctance to move KG back to PF, I would prefer KG to play the five too but I am perfectly happy to switch him back to the four if we bring in a center good enough to make that worthwhile.

I think JaVale McGee qualifies as that. Admittedly, more so in terms of potential than current ability.

What would be a reasonable offer for him?

8 mil? 9 mil?

Yes.  That seems reasonable to me, with what you pay for height.

He will get offered more though I believe, so I don't consider him an option.

Thats a reasonable offer but i bet a team will pay 12-13 a year for him... Which i think is absurd but there will be a gm out there to do so.
