Well the title says it all..
I sure wouldnt be happy if Danny opted to Draft him with one of our First Round picks.
Sure the guy has the physics and can play some D, but thats all. He doesnt have any postmoves, he literally sucks on offense. I simply cannot understand why everyone goes ahead and calls him the next Roy Hibbert, he will be NOWHERE near Roy (In my opinion). In my eyes his best case would be someting like Brendan Haywood and worst case Desagana Diop. And the fact that this guy only pulled 5.8 rpg isnt encouraging, he just seems timid when going for a rebound.
I am sorry if I seem like a Fab Melo hater, but this guy just hasnt impressed me enough.

What is your guys opinion on this guy?

I think it really depends on whether they intend to re-sign Garnett.  Garnett is essentially to Stiemsma what Clifford Ray was to Jefferson and Perkins.  Or if they bring back Ray...Who seems like as good a big man coach as there is.

Then Ainge and Rivers have to decide if Melo has the work ethic to benefit from Garnett's craziness and work ethic.  Scouting reports on Melo vary on that opinion.

Fab Melo does not have what it takes to make it as a Celtic, from a mental/cultural standpoint, considering what his teammates would be asking of him... in my opinion.  From my time at SU with him, and from my time as an intern with SU Athletics, I can tell you that he in no way, shape or form has the characteristics that qualify as being a Celtic.

Don't get me wrong, he's a really nice guy and good person, and he's a talented player when he puts his mind to it. However, he just doesn't care about the game of basketball very much at all, and that would make for a terrible mix in culture with the way the Celtics are currently constituted.

I think he could end up having a few semi-productive years in the NBA, but he just doesn't have that winning mentality or love for the game that I believe the Celtics look for in their players.

So, to answer your question, while I believe that Fab possesses certain attributes that the Celtics could use (size, rim protecting ability), he is still a very raw talent with very questionable mental toughness, and I would be disappointed if the Celtics drafted him.

Depends who's still on the board. I've heard a comparison of sam dalembert which doesn't seem awful but we could so a lot better
*CB Miami Heat*
Kyle Lowry, Dwayne Wade, 13th pick in even numbered rounds, 18th pick in odd numbered rounds.

Actually the guy Fab reminds me of (Playing wise) is Daniel Orton. I remember alot of people was high on him because of his size (Many had him going in the lottery). Look where he is today, on his way out of the NBA.

Maybe I'm a little biased because I got to see him play in person once, but I was pretty unimpressed by him in that game. I think we can do better.

Can't we just bring Gerald Green back?

Positively no. Melo terrifies me. Classic big man who has a few glimmers of talent to intrigue people but I worry he is yet another player who will get picked and then paid because he happens to be 6'11" or taller. Stay away from Melo. Would he be any better than a healthy Stiemsma? I doubt it.

If Fab falls into the 2nd round, then absolutely take a flier on him. Do not take him with the 21st or 22nd picks though. I'd rather take a euro who won't play here for the next two years...Fab just needs to develop more and actually show passion for the game. It actually wouldn't be a bad idea for him to play overseas for a year so he can learn more basic fundamentals

Nobody thought Hibbert would be as good as Hibbert is either, or he would have gone higher.

Melo didn't even start watching BB on TV until 5 years ago when he moved to the US. He started playing about a year before that.

I think Melo has the talent to be very good. His jumper is underrated and will only get better with more reps. Big men develop late even if they start playing at age 7 and not age 17.

However, I heard them talking at the Combine about how last season he couldn't even remember a really simple play while being pre-occupied with something that happened on the other end of the floor.

The Latino stereotype is passionate and sometimes hotheaded, and Melo shown some passion in losing so much weight and improving so much last year, as well as some hotheadedness when he reached in a girl's car and broke her blinker lever.

It's entirely possible that although Melo was "always a soccer guy", that he will embrace the challenge of the NBA and proving his doubters wrong.

It's also possible that he will end up coasting after a few years and trying to get by on his size alone.

Intelligence-wise, he might just be new to the game, but he also might really struggle with with the C's defense.

It might be best to generally just let him play and gain experience and confidence, kind of like how Hollins was thrown right into the fire when he got here.

If Garnett retires, the need to take a chance on Melo increases greatly. Even if Garnett doesn't retire, we may really regret passing on him. We got lucky to nab Steimsma and Hollins off the scrap heap. Most of the time you end up with worse players.

I'm really hoping Danny moves up and takes either Jared Sullinger or Meyers Leonard.

If we don't move up, then Melo would be someone we'd have to consider. There aren't going to be too many other legitimate bigs at that point in the draft, drafting in the 20's I mean.
