Woj says that the Mavs have submitted the winning bid for Brand:

The Dallas Mavericks have successfully claimed Elton Brand off amnesty waivers, a league source tells Y! Sports.

I wonder which other teams bid on him.

Nicely done. I wonder if this rules them out of the Scola bidding process.

Personally, I think they should go after Scola as well. It would lock him up on a cheap contract for the next few years. Very valuable when re-tooling next summer.
Depends on how much they bid, I wouldn't be shocked if they put a bid on Scola though they might not win.

I guess it depends on how jealously they want to preserve their cap space for a run at Dwight Howard next summer. Scola wouldn't eat a lot of the space, but $3.5 to $4 million could make a difference.

Edit: Rumors that the winning bid was a mere $2.1 million. If so, wow.

They'd have no problem trading Scola at such a small salary.

Dirk, Kaman, and Brand is a nice big man rotation for the Mavs. Excellent pickup. I really think more than how talented each player is, the key is that these 3 guys will blend well together.

Very slow -- Dallas are in for a rough time defensively with those big men.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, a league source has confirmed that the Dallas Mavericks successfully claimed Elton Brand off amnesty waivers on Friday.

Details are coming in that the winning bid for Brand was $2.1 million, which is much lower than expected. In addition to officially grabbing Brand, the Mavericks are said to be on the verge of also signing free agent center Chris Kaman. If Kaman does, in fact, sign with Dallas, Brand will back up both Dirk Nowitzki and Kaman in the Mavericks' front court. Brand will also be a nice insurance policy if Dallas somehow ends up not being able to get the Kaman deal done. Brand will need some minutes to open up for him to be fantasy-relevant next season.

For a couple million Brand is nice. He will be backup to both Dirk and Kaman. I am sure he will see more time at Center with Ditk then at PF with Kaman. Marion would play some PF also.
