No.
I don't want Smith, he is overpayed.
I don't want Rivers on the team his father coaches. I want that developmental time at SG to go to Bradley.
In this proposted trade idea, the #13 pick (Rivers) would be going to Atlanta, not Boston.
Josh Smith overpaid? 1 year $13 million left for an all-star caliber player? That's not that overpaid. He's not even one of the top 30 paid players. If he's going to demand more, then maybe he would be overpaid, but nobody has any definitive knowledge if that will happen or not.
And I think Smith would really thrive in an up-tempo system with Rondo. A ball-stopping system in Atlanta with Joe Johnson is the worst kind of system for a player like Smith that is currently getting the least out of his potential.
If you make 13 million in the NBA, you better be a difference maker.
Josh Smith is a good player. He is a fringe all-star.
If he was truly a 13 million a year player, we wouldn't have a tread suggesting it will take only a undersized journey man back up PF and two 20 something draft picks.
If he was truly a 13 million a year player, the Hawks would have been more then a pretender all those years.
Save the money for a going after a true star. Not an over hyped over payed player.
So you're saying Josh Smith isn't a difference maker? I think you're confusing superstar and difference maker. Josh Smith may not be able to "take over games" but he is definitely a difference maker IMO.
And plenty of "13 million players" have not only been rumored to be traded for pu pu platters as LooseCannon mentioned, but have indeed been traded for those pu pu platters. See Ray Allen, KG, Pau Gasol who are worth way more than $13M and have been traded for barely more (or arguably less in the case of Pau before hindsight).
And regarding Atlanta's "pretender" status, I agree with you that they are pretenders. But if you swap Rondo for Josh Smith and paid Rondo $13M, Atlanta would still be pretenders and Rondo would still be under or fairly paid, so I find that point to be moot. You can't judge a player's worth by his team's success all the time.
And what are the chances of landing this true star? I normally agree 100% with that logic, but I don't see a single non-PG true star that's obtainable in the next 2 offseasons. If you can give me one that you think we have a good chance of landing, then I will very likely change my opinion. I see no circumstance where Eric Gordon is worth $15M (which many people on this blog would drool over) but Josh Smith isn't worth $13M.
