I feel this hasn't been discussed as much. Kind of a scary thought as this would leave a gaping hole down low and in the locker room and we will almost surely be heading for the lottery. If you tell me to start steimsa I will laugh at you

Knowing how competitive this guy is, and how much he'll be dreaming of redemption this summer, (and how he feels he came up short for his fans this season), I would highly doubt a retirment announcement coming from Big Ticket anytime soon.

Yea pretty much wether or not we try to make a run next year relies on wether KG is back or not. It will be a sad day for us and all of basketball if Garnett hangs them up.  :(

Wouldn't shock me at all after seeing his exit.  Seemed like he didn't want to leave the floor and it just had to look of finality to it.

I guess it could have been just the finality of the Big 3 era but seemed bigger than that.

I don't honestly expect it but I wouldn't be shocked, I think a lot depends on what Danny does, if he lets ray walk and trades Paul I can't see KG coming back for a rebuilding phase

If he doesn't retire I think Ray stays, Bass comes back and we are able to add one good rotation player to the mix via free agency. The team improves and competes for a title next year.

If he does retire, I think we save the cap space until next year. In which case our defense will plummet. Rondo and Bradley will continue to get better and they are still a playoff team. However, with a big rotation of Bass, Wilcox, Green, Stiemsma, JJJ and a rookie (Nicholson, Melo, or White probably) we won't be able to do much damage in the playoffs.

I sincerely hope not. I don't even want to consider it. It's been a bad enough end to the season as is. The worst thing about this loss is the uncertainty. I'd feel a whole lot better if I knew the core would be back with a green vengeance. I'm not giving up on a 2nd ring for these guys.

I think he wanted to go out after winning his second win in the 2012 finals. Sadly it won't happen.

Let's hope we see KG again next season.

If KG retires... it's fair to say that there absolutely unquestionably will be NO free agent available who can replace what he does for this team... and unless Ainge gets extremely creative, you better not put any money on another deep playoff run next year.

Let's hope he comes back.  He was the MVP of this team during this playoff run.

Possible KG will take a leave of absence next year. He is one more championship away from retiring. But he is tired , has nagging knees, doesn't need anymore money and there is alot of uncertainties surrounding the celts team next year.

BUT likely i can see him pull a pj brown and join us mid season for a playoffs run

This is basically accepting that KG doesn't care about money and wouldn't mind signing for the vet minimum mid-season.  For the record, I'd be all for that, because it would mean we could potentially utilize our mythical cap space.  However, I find it unlikely...  KG proved during this playoff run that he's still a dominant big man (especially on the defensive end where he was absolutely crucial to our team's ability to win games)...  I have no idea what that's worth.  I think it's worth whatever KG wants, honestly.  If he wants 15 mil for a season... Boston might as well give it to him.  It's his call.  He's irreplaceable.  He carried this team during the playoffs (with help from Rondo)... We absolutely wouldn't have been a contender without him and there isn't a free agent available who can give us what he did... so it's basically KG's call.  How much you want Kevin?  Let us know.  We need you back, tho.

At some point guys, we need to end the "rah rah he's p---ed and wants revenge, the team will come back next year" crap.

KG has basketball left in him. So does Paul... ANd so does Ray.

But not as lead dog. Sure, it will leave a "void" in the locker room, and completely change the franchise.......

But you have to accept the reality that the Big 3 are old. They can't get it done anymore...To think they would be yet another YEAR older by the finals come around next year...

I'm tired of the rah rah crap. No amount of motivation or firey speeches are going to get the Cs by Miami next year.

I'll be generous and give him co-MVP.  And that's saying a lot considering the level of play of the guy he shares that honor with.

If KG leaves or retires, we're best off tanking and spending the least amount of money we can under the CBA.  This will offend fantasy-basketball fans, but it's a weak free agent class and signing up players to achieve mediocrity is the last thing you want to do if chasing championships is your goal.
