Let me start by saying that this isn't a diss on Lebron as a player or Lebron as a person. I know how good he is as a basketball player and there are also some parts of his personality that I do not like. I'll leave my opinion of those things out of it.

I just want to say that I am completely sick and tired of hearing about how much of a superstar Lebron James is and his endless quest for that elusive NBA championship.

There are two sides to the debate;

- The side that says he is one of the greatest of all time and it doesn't matter that he may never win his chip.

or

- The side that says he is completely over-hyped and the fact that he is ringless means that he isn't that great.

I used to fight for the Celtics in the Lebron debates between friends and absolutely loved it when they eliminated him from the playoffs.

Now, the amount of media constantly surrounding this guy has pushed me to the point of just being over hearing about him altogether, whether he is playing the Celtics or not. It isn't even intelligently put-together media coverage anymore.

They just pick him apart when he loses and make up statistics with very specific variables (cough *ESPN*) to back up their flimsy argument that he isn't all that great. And then when he wins they'll gather some crazy hyperbole from NBA "legends" to make him seem like one of basketball's greatest ever.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if Lebron James really is as good as what the lovers say he is and if he really wants to silence the haters, then get on with it and win something already because I'm done hearing about it.

Ill finish by saying that if the Celtics win game 7 tomorrow night it wont be because of the things they did right, it will be the things Lebron didn't do. And that p---es me off something chronic at this point.

Well get used to it because you're going to hear it all next year too. If the Celtics don't win tomorrow and Miami reaches Finals they will fall short yet again to Perk and company who are stacked rested and on a mission. KD can bother James shot with his length, Sefalosha will make life hell for Dwayne Wade. They aren't beating OKC.

I have begrudgingly begun to gain a modicum of respect for Lebron James during this series, but I couldn't agree more with this sentiment.

I am so sick and tired of hearing about Lebron James.

LET'S GO CELTICS!!!!
DKC Seventy-Sixers:

PG: G. Hill/D. Schroder
SG: C. Lee/B. Hield/T. Luwawu
SF:  Giannis/J. Lamb/M. Kuzminskas
PF:  E. Ilyasova/J. Jerebko/R. Christmas
C:    N. Vucevic/K. Olynyk/E. Davis/C. Jefferson

I wish they'd talk more about teams and less about superstars.

It gets very tiresome.

  • Let them hate, as long as they fear
Celtic fans are death sick of Lebron as many golf fans are sick of Tiger. Does that mean that Tiger isnt the best and does that mean lebron is not right up there with the best? We used to hate Magic, Jabbar and all the Laker players that got the best of us. Now we cant stop Lebron so we hate him. Isnt that kind of an inmature attitude?
And someday in the midst of time,
When they ask you if you knew me
Remember that you were a friend of mine

Ever team he has played on has been flawed to a certain extent, but there shouldn't be any doubt that LeBron James is the greatest basketball player alive.  There's a lot of disdain for him for a variety of reasons... some fair... some not so fair... but the bottom line is that he's the best player in this league... an overpowering force of nature... a 3 time MVP... and he's still only 27 (same age Jordan was when he won his first title)...

A lot of the stuff people hate him for is petty.  The guy is a beast.  I honestly believe he could literally join ANY team in the league and it would instantly become a contender.  That doesn't mean they are unbeatable... just means that having the best player alive will give you a shot at a title every single year.  Throw LeBron on the Bobcats and they'd be a tough team to face in the playoffs.  Still... unless that Bobcats team is constructed properly, coached properly and compliments his abilities... a well-coached, well-constructed, defense-focused and veteran team with precise execution can probably find a way to beat him... or at least stretch a series against him to 7 games (as Boston is doing right now against LeBron, injured Wade and their rag-tag Miami team)

Im tired of the excuse that "every team he played on was flawed"...EVERY team in the nba is flawed...now lebrons playing with 2 allstars and still theres excuses made for him. He chose this and i have no sympathy if/when he doesnt get it done again.

Lebrons not the best player alive...if anything durant is just as good or better(in a close game I take durant all day). There was an article the other day looking at stats that pretty much showed durant has closed the gap

YES!  I am sick of the LJ hype machine.  I am also so sick of the flip flop of the media after every game.  After we won game 5 the Heat are DONE.  After we lose game 6, according to the bobble heads on espn (magic, jon barry, and the rest of the crew) we are absolutely done, no way we can win game 7, we are tired, old.  They honestly have no more in depth understanding of basketball than most of us on this board.  I honestly haven't heard one bit of insight that made me go, wow you guys really know your stuff.

Does the media even listen to what they are saying?  Same thing with Lebron, one day he is a goat, the next day the 2nd coming of jesus christ himself.  It is just stupid.  Almost like they enjoy blowing up the LJ doll to mythic proportions, only so they can take a pin and pop him at the first sign of being human.  And for the record, I agree, he is the best in the NBA.  But we are at game 7 for a reason.  I wish the media would at least acknowledge that.

The heat are beatable.  We won 3 games already.  We can win a 4th.  I hate how all of them are homers for Miami and lebron.  Rondo lights them up for 44 and it is a special good performance.  LJ scores 45 and all of the sudden he is the best player that has ever picked up a basketball.  Yeah he dominated, but he still hasn't done anything yet.

I wish they'd talk more about teams and less about superstars.

It gets very tiresome.

I agree thats why I wish it were the TNT crew handling the games...while annoying at times not as bad Kenny actually makes good points, hell I'll take McHale the analyst over these idiots.

Mir auch, (ditto).

The fact that so many people believe that the media are unbiased and have no interest in promoting their own agendas is a bit discouraging, (and I'm talking sports here, not politics).

The playoffs taking a popularity-motivated course is as lucrative a prospect for the media as it is for the league, make no mistake ... and LeBaby is their "Golden Boy".

I'm entirely disgusted with the whole system, and the lengths they go to stroke their favorite icons. The only reason I continue watching their broadcasts at all is my love for the game.

That's the hook they've got planted in us, unfortunately, and thanks to the innate affinity we humans have for competition, it's a hook that's very hard to remove.

Not sure if anything will ever change, though, because ultimately it's us who keep this whole maching cranking, and until enough of us demand something different, they'll be more than happy to supply the electricty.

Payment for the love we have for the game and it's athletes, I guess, and we keep shelling it out. When and if our displeasure with the system outweighs our love for the sport, then maybe things will improve.

I'm not holding my breath.

When there was 2 minutes or so left in the game, and both benches had been emptied, Lebron was covering his mouth with a towel whenever he talked to someone, seemingly to prevent TV viewers from reading his lips. Any ideas why?

This is exactly why if we lose tonight, I will be rooting for the Heat in the finals.  Sure they will still talk about Lebron, but I don't think the hyperbole will be nearly as strong next year if the Heat win the title.  If they lose to Boston or OKC, the hyperbole and hype chain will be far worse next year, and that is a place i don't want to be (unless of course Boston wins the title, then I won't care).
