The following quote might be one of my favorites of the playoffs so far. To set it up, Doc Rivers was asked about Rondo's comments regarding the Heat crying to the refs, which gave him opportunities in transition:
Celtics coach Doc Rivers tiptoed around the subject on Monday when asked about Rondo's comments and whether the Celtics see the Heat complaining to officials when they watch film.
"We watch a lot of film, I'll just stop there," he said. "Other than that, I don't make comments on that. I mean, Rondo is very emotional, we like him to be intense. Obviously, if that motivates anybody else, that motivates anybody else. But if you need motivation at this point, there's something wrong anyway. As far as what he said, I'll leave that alone. I'll just leave it there."
1) They watch a lot of film, but he's gonna stop there...BUT HE'S NOT GONNA STOP THERE!
2) Other than watching Film, Doc doesn't make comments like Rondo's.
3) Rondo is very emotional, and Doc likes him to be intense. And if that motivates anybody else, it motivates everybody else. Tink about it.
4) However, if you need motivation at this point, he thinks there is something wrong with you.
5) And as far as what Rondo said, he's just gonna leave it alone. Twice.
My god that rambling, disjointed, totally uninformative dribble is EXACTLY the type of stuff I want the head coach of my team saying. To be clear, I'm not being sarcastic. That crazy concoction of passive meaningless assertations is brilliant, and making the biggest sports reporting organization print it on their web page is an achievement.
Greg Popovich read that, and he sent Doc Rivers a card that simply reads, "When this is all over, I think I'm gonna buy you a steak dinner."
