Kaman would be tempting. But speed is paramount. We need guys who can get up and down the court, and also move their feet on defense.

I wonder what a guy like Lavoy Allen will go for?

Don't you think Dwight Howard has to be watching these playoffs, seeing how Rondo is able to run the team and get the ball inside at will -- and he's thinking "what would it take to play with him?"

The Celtics don't have the pieces to make a trade. Who knows what might happen in the summer of 2013.

However I think Howard will be traded somewhere else before next season starts.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I was able to see the benefit of bringing him in for the minimum mid-season, but I really have no desire to have Kaman join this team. He is slow, unathletic, and getting up there in years. He is really the exact opposite player we should be looking at for the future...guys like Josh Smith or Millsap make a lot more sense - especially if they are all going to make similar money...10 mill for Kaman, really??

I am thinking that there is a great chance of seeing Kaman in Green next year now that New Orleans has the # 1 pick and will draft Anthony Davis. That gives New Orleans a starting front line consisting of a # 1 pick and Okafor (who has a huge salary, so they have to play him).

 I don't think there's any way New Orleans is going to pay him around the 7 mil a year that the C's would be able to offer ( After signing KG for 8 mil and Green for 5 mil, hopefully Ray would come back for the vet min)

Kaman has already said that the c's would be on his list of potential teams for next season. I can't find that article at the moment ,but I believe it was posted on the front page of Celticsblog, but this one says how we would have been on his short list this year if he was bought out .

If the Hornets can't move him via trade, you can anticipate talks about a buy-out to begin soon.

That would allow him to become a free agent and sign with any team of his choosing.

According to a league source, Boston would be on his short list of potential destinations.

"You look at what they need and what he brings to the game . . . it would be a great fit, it really would," the source said. "But a lot of things have to happen, and not happen, before that can come about."

Now looking at the other teams that have money to spend, I don't see any of them offering Kaman long term contracts

Here are the teams that will have money to spend

http://passporthoops.com/2012/02/23/2012-13-nba-team-salary-cap-guide/

NJ, CLE,PHO,POR,IND and Washington will be the only teams that will have more money to spend than the c's , but with the exception of Portland they all have starting center who are as good or better than Kaman.

NJ= Lopez
Cle= Varajeo
Pho= Gortat
Ind= Hibbert

They are all also not true contenders .

I think that there is a great shot we could land Kaman next summer ! He would be a great addition as a legit big man rebounder and low post scorer. I would love to sign him for 1 or 2 years.
Add a good draft and look at how deep this team could be next year

PG: Rondo   / Vet min
SG: Bradley / Ray ( vet min) or Pietrus/ other vit min
SF: PP      / Green
PF: KG      / Bass or Draft pick( if Bass opts out)
 C: Kaman   / Wilcox

With the Rose injury the c's would be at least the 2nd best team in the East at for next season and have another shot at contending .

You really think Kaman is going to get a 1 or 2 year deal for 7 million per?  No way....

Why in the heck would we want Kamen.....?

I can't think of too many scenarios where Danny will want to overpay a 30 year old mediocre center for several years.....

How exactly does that fit into the plan(s)

Rebuilding- why do you need Kaman?

KG comes back- why in the hell would you sign Kaman?

Reloading- why in the hell would you reload with Kaman? lolol

you're right. if we overpay for him why would we want him. But if he'll be on board on mid level money here's why.

He's 30, he's not as old. So he can be part of the rebuilding as one of the vets.

He might be slow, be he's tough and can clog the lanes. He can help KG either as a backup or slide KG back to forward. Remember plays C right now but does not want to.

For 4-5 million dollars, why would you not want to reload with Kaman. He has solid low post defense, good rebounder and high character. He's slow and takes a lot of jumpshots I know, but do we really think he'll have shots here in Boston? He'll be nothing more than what JO is, a screener, big body, rebounder who's skilled. And for the mid level, i'd take him.

But no more than mid level.

Sure I'll give him 5 mil for 1 year.

No more though.

I don't want his ass for more than 1 season.

Please no. No more aging retreads. Lets get someone at the 5 who can move and get up and down the floor. This is a strange suggestion perhaps but I like Jason Thompson the restricted free agent center from the Kings. I think they would not match a decent sized deal.

There is absolutely no way we're about to get older and slower. As these conference finals have shown, KG is our only imposing big man out there. We need to go after Hibbert or McGee this offseason. They address all of our needs and paired with KG, would create a defensive behemoth with speed and an ability to block or alter incoming shots. Although both are RFA who will be hunted down by their respective teams for re-signs, I think the Celtics should go after them hard this offseason. Yes, they'll both likely end up overpaid, but young and defensively-adept centers are a rarity in this league now. Paired with perhaps runner-up 6th man Lou Williams, I can see this upgraded Celtics dominating the East for a few more years. Any thoughts?

This guy is empty calories. Decent numbers but doesn't make his team better. Can do better with the cap space. A lot better.
