I'm thinking that the draft is not the way to go to find the big that the Celtics need.  And instead of overpaying a RFA why not take a look at who's here and see if they can plug the holes.

Stiemsma - a solid if unspectacular player who can block, grab a few boards, and hit a set shot from time to time.  What he has accomplished is particularly impressive because he's been wearing a boot!

Hollins- an instigator but he can't block and he can't rebound.  Honestly, i don't think he's that useful.

Wilcox- not that great defensively but he can score and can run with Rondo.  A big concern is obviously the heart issues.

Williams - for me, he's the most intriguing, the most athletic, and the best combo of offense and defense.  He can block, rebound, and he can run with Rondo.  In fact I think Rondo could make him look spectacular!

So, I say don't go solely for size in the draft and the RFAs are always overpriced.  Let's use Williams, Stiemsma, and wait for Wilcox to get back.  That collection is good enough to keep the Celtics front court in good shape.  Along with KG, of course... ;D

Jesus I hope not.

I hope we go for a free agent PF who can board and is long.  I like KG at center now.

I like Hawes and Humphries, as long as neither eats up our cap space.

KG will be next year's center.

There's probably a 50/50 chance that Brandon Bass comes back (his play this postseason is likely putting a damper on demand for his services in free agency; we're seeing his limitations on full display).  I'm alright with BB returning, as long as it's for a bench role.

Pretty decent chance that JJJ cracks the rotation, although perhaps more as a 'tweener 3/4.  Doubt he'll be a starter, but I would hope he can carve out a bench role for himself.

Stiemer will return, for a bench role.

Dobutful about Hollins, as with BB we're seeing that the scouting report was pretty accurate.  He can help on occassion, he's really athletic but a lot of his athleticism seems to be wasted; he's just not a particularly good player.  He's all over the place, yet can't score or grab a rebound.

Sean Williams; camp invite, long shot to make the roster.

Chris Wilcox; let's hope he can come back, just because that'll mean the docs have given him a clean bill of health.  Any contributions he gives will just be bonus.

I believe there's a pretty good chance that most of this year's frontcourt returns next season, but I really hope that doesn't mean that we aren't active in pursuing another quality big man.  If KG remains at the 5, there isn't really another player there that I'd be comfortable with as the starting 4.  Lots of guys who, either because of their youth or their limitations, you would really prefer to see in a bench role.  But, I'd guess that most of these guys will return.

Hawes would be a fine addition, would Philly allow him to leave?

If we're bringing KG back next year we have to get him some more help than what is currently on the roster.

Either at PF or C, though my preference is to keep KG at C for as much time as possible.

I love Stiemer, but those guys are at best contending for backup.  I'll give Stiemer a pass for being a rookie playing with two bad feet for most of the season and post-season.  Williams is something of a vet and it says something that he couldn't nudge his way past Hollins or at least into suiting up in the playoffs.

Bass is both exposed and likely to leave, and you've got to anticipate some decline from KG, presuming he's hear.

I think they've got their starting backcourt all set, but need a high potential 3, 4 or 5 out of this draft--one way or another.

I definitely don't want Bass as our starting 4 next season.

Agreed.

He'd be a fine backup, but we need someone who can help KG on team defense and on the glass.

goodness gracious NO. We need help badly with a proven big man next year to spell KG. The guys we have on the bench cannot get it done. They are back ups at best.
LET'S GO CELTICS!

I'll take a big rotation of

KG
Humpheries/Kaman or Illyasova
Bass or Wilcox
Draft pick ( Hopefully Nicholson, Leonard or Royce White)
JJJ

I thin that a very good big man rotation, even if Bass opts out and we sign Wilcox instead .

I think Kaman has a good chance of happening now that Anthony Davis is going to NO. Kaman is going to have a hard time seeing the floor over the # 1 pick and Okafor who is getting paid big bucks

I want a starting quality PF to replace Bass and have Bass come off the bench. Then sign another quality center or retain Stiesma (wanna see this kid after a full training camp)
