Rondo gets a lot of credit for his play, but the dominant big man makes us a contender... and KG has been phenomenal, dominant and consistent throughout these entire playoffs.

Kevin Garnett has proved to be probably the most important player to the whole team. Rondo runs the show on offense but when Garnett sits we usually struggle to get stops, no stops = no fastbreak or fast attacks by Rondo. When we get out and run we have executed like a NBA champion. We need to continue to run/execute and defense in game 5.

What's even more amazing, I saw a stat the other day that said that the Celtics opponents shot something like 36% when KG was on the floor and 85% when KG was off the floor. If someone can find that stat and post it, I'd appreciate it - I don't know how to find that kind of stuff.

Thanks.  I wonder if that number changed after last night's game or if the number was attributable to all teams, I'm not sure.  I'm pretty sure the number I saw was 85%.  Maybe that number was wrong, because there were no links to the stat.

The numbers I cited were just for the Heat series, the Philly/Atlanta series will change the numbers if included.

Still the number wouldn't be 85%, that's too big a swing given the relative sample size.

It was probably a single game's on/off.

  It's interesting, but they seem to both be carrying the team, but in different ways. KG carries the team from mediocre to good, Rondo carries the team from good to great. We couldn't stay in the game against Miami with a front court of Bass, Steamer and Hollins but we would have no chance of matching the play of LeBron and Wade without Rondo. KG is strong and steady, Rondo is frequently spectacular.

Why does it have to be one player that carries the team? At times it's been Rondo, at times KG - and many times, both. It's fairly lazy analysis - IMO - to make the distinction that a dominant big man makes us a contender when it's actually a combination of a dominant defense, a dominant point guard and a dominant big man.

This is like the "pass the torch" stuff. This is a team. KG couldn't do it without Rondo and vice versa.

If we had another big guy who could play D protecting the rim we might be alright. That shoulod be our main focus this offseason. We need a really good PF or C so KG can get plenty rest next year. The big guys we currently have are not cutting it.
