There are things that are very sinister seemed to either improve a higher marketable team to move on (miami) or to just extend the series. One example of how a ref can influence a game to extend the series (therefore more games and more $$$) would be the Philly series. It's been a long time now, but remember when KG got caught with that moving pick in the end of the game resulting in a loss? What was the outcome? The series went to game 7 instead of 5 or 6, and NBA can profit more.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, I do expect the Celtics to get the calls this game so they can look more even and try to add more games to the series because nobody wants to see a 4 game series.

I too, sent a letter yesterday to the NBA. Above all, I asked that I be respected and receive a personal response to my letter and not some standard automated BS response.

I really hope they take notice that there is a lot of good in the NBA, but also a lot of bad!

Yesterday I also  saw where the Celtics owner Wyc Grousbeck commented on radio about the officiating and not placing all the blame on them. This comment, of course, is code - it means David Stern has spoken to ownership about the situation and asked Wyc not to forget he also has an interest in not discrediting the NBA. The result was the radio interview.

You can fool some of the people some of the time, but you can't fool all of the people all of the time!

I like the effort but this whole letter smelled of sour grapes to me.  I think these would be more effective if it focussed on the league as a whole rather than just the Celtics getting Jobbed by the refs

  • You ain't the boss of the freakin' bedclothes.
Conspiracies are like farts, it's obvious they're there, and someone is to blame, but you can never prove who.

Just to clarify, I did not write this but I thought I'd post it since it hit home with me. And I told Mike Munger I would ;)

I still say it's massively hypocritical for any Celtic fan to blame the refs for a loss when we went to the finals in 2008 and 2010, won a title in 2008... and our competition has complained about ref bias favoring Boston at countless points during those runs.

Add to that the complaint about the Wade kick which should have been an offensive IF KG didn't foul Wade first. Hard to take a letter like this seriously when it is written from a clear disappointed homer perspective.

A letter like that needs to come from someone who actually goes through all the plays of individual games (that their favorite team is not involved in) and consistently finds clear patterns in blown calls.

Blaming the ref's for a win really isn't much different from blaming them for a loss.

either way its ineptitude.

Actually, they are usually like ghosts. Don't actually exist, but our brains tend to see significance in random patterns.

I do accept that their are conspiracies (that is why we have the CIA), but most conspiracy theories are just examples of how poor we humans are at processing data.

I don't agree with this. A NBA conspiracy believer could be advocating integrity.

Of course, if there was a conspiracy and integrity was then restored, those fans would still claim conspiracies since refs would continue to blow calls and we fans would continue to have biased perceptions. Whether or not there is a conspiracy, there will always be NBA conspiracy theorists.

So what if it did? Nobody is saying it's good when we get special treatment.

Most people who are unhappy with officiating want the games to be called fairly for both teams.

I'd also like to say that not all complaints against officiating are based in reality. This does not mean every complaint is invalid or baseless.
Back to wanting Joe fired.

I really believe the refs call the game as fair as they came.  There is an element of human error, but it isn't malicious... and it's been happening forever.  Just part of the game.  You win some due to bad calls and you lose some due to bad calls.  I think it's gotten better than it was in the past, because there are some uses of "instant replay" and such.  Boring subject.  Heat won.  Let's try to win the next two.

That's exactly what a conspirator would say.
