I don't understand how the legal system can allow this woman to collect 50k a month in child support.  She should only be able to collect about half of that in a year.

Rodman's attorney Linnea Willis said the four charges stemmed from a period of time when he was expected to pay $50,000 a month in child support. That amount has since been reduced to $4,500 for child and spousal support. Rodman is now current on those obligations, she said.

What I don't understand is why it was $50,000 in the first place?  Aren't the court's supposed to go by your ability to pay?  Did Rodman ever have enough money to pay $50,000 per month?

Why's it too much? Rodman earned a lot throughout his career http://www.basketball-reference.com/players/r/rodmade01.html. He has almost none of it now, so of course the amount should be reduced. But at the time they got married (2003), he was still making money in Hollywood, living the high life.
