Okay, so with the first pick, Philadelphia takes Shaquille O'Neal (1999-2000).

This'll be fun.

With Hakeem, which is the only guy who "owned" Shaq in his entire career not available im looking at other and see how they counter this monstrous force.

With my 1st pick in the 2012 CelticsBlog Historical Draft, I'm selecting:

The Kid.

Will probably go with his 2003-04 season, but still researching.

Thanks for patience, folks. :)

I love Garnett in these historical drafts. Great skill-set.

I was tempted to take KG with the first pick.

To be clear, the rules are that any player that played from 1985 until the present is eligible, correct?

I think folks might be over-thinking this a bit, to let the near-consensus (i.e., outside of Boston) best player of all-time fall to #3.

EDIT:  Okay, I see.  Even though the rules say this:

Quote
Each player will be assigned a team and run that team as it's owner. Players to be drafted will be any player that played from 1985 until the present. Once a player is drafted he is the property of that team. Once all rounds of the draft are over, each owner will be required to submit a roster picking the season that each of his or her players will be represented by. The season chosen must be a season within the time frame of the era, in this case, 1985-86 to-2011-2012.

... the real intent is for this to be for players drafted in '85 and after?

I don't know if KG here is a reach necessarily, but I think there is one clear guy who needed to be picked at #2.

Lets see if Rondo grabs him.

All I know is...Shaq will be AWFULLY hard to defend without opening this up to the 1960's. :)

There are a FEW out there that could slow him down just a tad, but he will be a load in this format.
