Is the Tim Donaghy that everyone is referencing as some beacon of truth the same Tim Donaghy that guaranteed on the radio in 2010 that the league wouldn't allow Boston to advance to the ECF?  Dude is a liar.  Plain and simple.

Just because x doesn't happen, doesn't mean that it wasn't desired.

I won't claim its 100% fixed, but Im not going to defend a league that blatantly allows certain players to break the rules either. Stern could end star treatment if he wanted to, yet he doesn't because they make the league a lot of $.

It doesn't matter if there are directives, in the end, the officiating is bad and it benefits the league darlings. We have a fixable problem that stern won't address because it increases the odds that desired matchups will happen.
Back to wanting Joe fired.

The C's are a top teir market.  The league would much rather see the C's advance over the Atlantas and Detroits of the world.  Which of our playoff series were weighted by the preferencial treatment we received from the refs?  If the league is fixed, there's gotta be some examples, right?

Its just like NASCAR...they want the most popular drivers and major sponcers to win ... everything is about MONEY ....

LEBRON is a GOLD MINE ......he hasn't even won a banner yet ...but he is displayed as the end all basket all player that ever lived.

He is the "CHOSEN ONE" ....

How dare we have a finals without the MVP in it???  :D

Let it said , let it be written.

I thought game 6 against Atlanta had a number of calls (or non calls) go the Celtics way.

Usually I see more of the wacky officiating in the middle of a series, when the NBA is trying to help stretch the series. To honest if the Heat go up 3-0, I expect some home cooking for Boston in game 4. Even if the Heat go up 2-0, i might expect Boston to get the benefit of some close calls in game 3.

Precisely.

I thought the series against Orlando where they had no answer for us is a strong example.  They were going to get swept, but it ended up going 6 games.

But a lot can happen in those extra games (injuries, fatigue) that harm teams and affect the outcomes.  In our case, less games is better for us, extending a series hurts us in the next one.  We could use a break between series, but those are hard to come by in the modern NBA.

If the league sent word to crack down by using techs, that hurts us more than Miami.  If they sent word instead to crack down on travelling, that would hurt Maimi significantly.  They can affect a series in subtle ways.

So yes, the table is rigged in favor of the house (league revenue), but I don't think they really care about individual teams that much unless their cash cow is on that team.

That's just confirmation bias. Heck, most of the games are in the "middle of a series". And other people rant about games at the end of the series.

Missed calls happen all the time.

The officiating in the NBA can be pretty awful at times, and there's clearly different standards for stars vs non-stars.  And the more subjective the call, the more inconsistent it tends to be.  The league needs to take steps to remove the subjectivity, situational considerations, and especially the refs' egos from how calls are made.

But I don't think anyone here really believes it's fixed.  If it was, why bother watching?  If it's not, why say so?  And again, if it's rigged, we're one of the biggest beneficiaries - we have 3 titles, 3 finals appearances, and several conference finals since Stern got here.

If you do believe it's fixed, I suggest a little test - judging things in hindsight is easy.  But since the league is so blatantly rigged, it shouldn't be hard to make a few predictions in advance.  Specific, clear ones that can be objectively true or false, not vague things like "LeBron will get all the calls, y'all".

Write em down and keep track of your hits and misses.  The smart, discerning fans who see through this massive conspiracy should also be able to consistently predict how that conspiracy will play out, right?  Those 3 straight years of Kobe-LeBron finals matchups can attest to that.
Never say "But I don't think anyone here really believes it's fixed."

There are still people who believe that the earth is flat, people who believe the earth is only 6000 years old, people who believe that Bush 2 had an IQ below 100, people who believe that Obama is a Muslim, people who believe we never landed on the moon, people who believe in Bigfoot, etc. People can believe all sorts of things.
so true,  I for one don't believe the NBA is fixed.  it's still very much broken  8)
